We went for a cheeky afternoon drink. Standard cheap and cheerful Wetherspoons :)Didn't get anything to eat.

Nice place. Plenty of outdoor seating but not in the sun, dogs not allowed. All pretty much on one level so ideal for wheelchairs. Good wetherspoons value.

Bishops Mill is the best spoons in the north east tbf. Staff are sometimes a bit apathetic and don't particularly care about their jobs but I wouldn't either to be honest.Atmosphere is fantastic. I've been several times and different points in the day and they've all got different atmospheres. Weekdays during the day are fairly quiet and uneventful, service is quick and not much fuss. Had some fun experiences on weekend nights though. For example witnessing a couple break up because they didn't like one of their kids or when a man threatened over the phone to kick his daughters boyfriends head in because he wasn't very nice. Some random man by the bar saw my mate had a guitar case with him and asked him to play Wonderwall for a fiver. The man was inebriated at 3pm on a Tuesday. He then had a 20 minute conversation with me going over the same point that he used to play guitar but gave up.Food is usually ok, but they have the worst constructed burgers I have ever seen. Once witnessed a burger I was given literally topple like a jenga tower just with the force of the plate being put onto the table. Guinness is very cheap though which is a big plus.Overall, git mint.Parking: The Walkergate car park literally has a lift inside that takes you straight up just outside the bishops mill, or stairs that lead you to a door that comes out just next to Katie O'Brien's which is next door.

When I first moved to Durham, I was told that I needed to check out "Spoons," shorthand for JD Wetherspoon, or Bishops' Mill. I believe the exact phrase was that "it's a quintessential British experience, and it's terrible." I think they meant it as a compliment, sort of.Imagine my surprise when I went there for lunch and it was, as a matter of fact, not that bad. Decent food and good service at a terrific price. Then I went for breakfast, and it was even better. (Seriously, a sausage and bacon muffin sandwich with unlimited coffee costs about £4.) Then I went there late at night, and it had basically turned into a nightclub. Not quite my vibe, honestly, but the service was still surprisingly good, the beer was still cheap, and the music was too loud to notice anything else. Here's my honest opinion: I've been to several places in Durham looking for good food and cheap beer. Most places seem to be strictly either-or, and places that claim to do both are either overpriced or serve food that is conspicuously tasteless. Bishops' Mill won't win any Michelin stars, but that's not the point. The food is good enough, the beer is certainly cheap, and it's a quintessential British experience. It's kind of terrible, but I mean that as a compliment.

Haven't been here for about 10 years! Was back home in the North East for a visit, so decided to pop in. Was a bit of a culture shock being in there sober, as ten years prior I definitely wasn't, when visiting here!Spotlessly clean as always. The toilets are still really well kept, and just like I remember. The staff were all spot on, and the service was really quick.Ordered on the app, and it was over sharpish. Only downside was the jacket potato I had was quite dry. Could have done with some butter on the potato, and some more mayo in the tuna. Lovely fresh salad to go with it though, good portions.Really pleased to see it's still doing well!

Stayed for a weekend in Durham and popped in here late afternoon for a quick drink. The noise and pathetic loud laughter was ridiculous. To be fair got served fairly quickly and the barman was friendly. Like most spoons they take an age to clean the tables and we had to do it ourselves once a table was found. Special praise to the boneheaded bouncer who came over to my partner and told her she couldn't sleep in here when she took her glasses off and rested her eyes for about 30 seconds when getting herself together. She has just recovered from two serious cases of cancer and this bonehead thought she was easy picking to flex her muscles, despite all the broken bottles and glasses being shed around us. To cap it off, my partner told me of young girls sharing cubicles and taking pictures of their never regions and sending them on. You have been warned.

A busy Saturday afternoon & service was slow. Despite this staff weren't exactly pushing themselves to serve meals. My partner ordered the 10 oz gammon & eggs, other associate ordered a beefburger. The beefburger came fairly quickly, although over the specified time schedule by Wetherspoons, but it should have had six onion rings & only came with three & three very short broken pieces. Our meals took over 25 minutes to come - my partner had to go to the bar & ask where they were. Our table number was showing red on their screen. My partner's gammon was burnt on one side & uncooked on the other. His eggs were stone cold. My scampi came with mushy peas, which I dislike - they were obviously out of garden peas & also had no Whitley Neill raspberry gin again. Yes, it's fairly cheap, but each visit these days seems to be a major disappointment.

My partner and I visited twice at the quieter, breakfast time of the day, so can?t attest to what it?s like on a busy evening.Plenty of seating inside and out, there is a family friendly area and even then, the whole pub is fairly accessible.Food was what you expect from a Weatherspoons, reliable and decently priced! We ordered from our tables both times and food was quick, as were drinks. Staff very friendly and welcoming. Would definitely revisit.

Popped in for a quick bite to eat, the pub was clean and tidy and drinks brought to the table quickly. The food was very nice.

Awful door staff/management. One of the group got turned away by what I?m guessing was a manager, he had a white shirt on with what looked like a camera on his chest. He said the me never of the group was too drunk although this was only the second bar we went too not a chance he was too drunk. they?d previously let 4 girls in who were under the age of 18 and could barely stand up. The ?manager? then proceeded to say another of the group couldn?t get in because he had a tiny mark on his top off someone spilling a drink on it, you could barely see it?. To which we pointed out the member of staff who said this had a big stain on his shirt and once that was pointed out he cowardly scuttled away inside the bar and told the bouncers not to let our group in. Been going here for years never had any trouble but will not be returning.

When we go out we always look for a JD Wetherspoons as its rare we get disappointed. Today was no exception. Good hot food. Clean pub. Exceptionally nice and polite staff. What more can you say. This is one I would definitely recommend

You really do get value for money here, I've paid alot more for lower quality food at other establishments. The location is fantastic, the staff are always friendly and happy to help. We visit every time we are in Durham, other places could learn a thing or two about how to give value for money.

Wait more than Hours and food never arrived. They didn?t want refund me, they said couldn?t find me; so what are the table numbers for? The lady manager needs attention, training needed cus she makes no sense, what is she doing?

Visited on Friday 28th at around 8pm for food and drinks to celebrate a friend?s birthday. Potential to be a great venue if it wasn?t for the misery painted across all off the staff?s faces. Particularly the ?Team Lead? with long blonde hair and a severe attitude problem. Need to work on staff morale and also my halloumi fries were more like pork scratchings, nearly chipped a tooth!
