Not a bad hotel. Went for a spa break and unfortunately the spa no longer has a pool, but instead has hot tubs, a sauna, and an ice bath. These unfortunately can feel quite crowded, quite quickly and wasn't quite what we were hoping for. You also only get spa access once as part of the package we booked so had to use it all at once (3 hours) when really we could have done 90 minutes each day we were there and probably enjoyed it more. The staff were fine, and did help when the people next door to us were yelling at each other. The rooms are a bit dated and do not have a mini fridge. Our room was quite a walk and up stairs which really wasn't great for my mother but we should have asked to be moved. We also had a double bed instead of two singles. It was very quiet when we stayed so not a lot of atmosphere in the bar areas. The food in the restaurant was very good but was a bit 'pub-fare'.

I was only staying for two nights as I had a business meeting in the local town to branch out my work, I spoke to the events manager to see if I could hire out the ballroom for a conference meeting and her attitude was horrible, she didn?t say how much it would cost or ask me if I wanted to add tea ,coffee or any type of food that could be provided whilst I had the meeting, to top it off she smelt like she had been out drinking the night before and she looked hungover. I thought the hotel was meant to be 3 stars but the front of house staff and receptionists were all good with there jobs

I don't think I will be returning. I booked it for my husbands 50th Birthday for a relaxing weekend to be told on arrival that the spa facilities are no longer complimentary and they have no longer got the swimming pool. which was very disappointing as it was only reason I booked here. lady on reception tried to charge me ridiculous amount for a glass bottle of coke and when I questioned it there was no apology I was just handed the extra change. when checking out the same lady told me I needed to pay and my reply was that I paid it on arrival and she said that I hadn't and then had to get proof that I had and all she said was that it wasn't updated on the system no apology again she just said it was there problem she would sort it. room was nice and clean and breakfast was lovelyWalkability: the forester pub just along the pub was lovely. staff very friendly

Ohhh, this place went from good to awfull in space of few hours. From rooms where you could not turn radiators down to one's where beds are covered in pet hairs to one's where you feel like next door neighbours is in your room whilst talking on the phone.Breakfast was a massive disappointment, where we had to get somewhere at specific time we allocated and an hour and 10 min for breakfast thinking that would be enough time to order and eat....Well not if you are ordering 2 scrambled eggs....it has taken 2 waiters reminders and after an hour there were still nothing by then I ran out of patience and we just left.Rooms are very dated which we accepted as this is the only hotel in Darlington that had ev charging on the premises which was vital to me, HOWEVER, upon spending few days there we noticed that there are more newer hotels that are very close to the super fast charges (litterally accross the road) so with this in mind we will used them instead of this place in future. Also the whole place needs either a redo / upgrade or good clean as when you walk through the corridor there is a foul smell, bathroom doors are all coated in silison because of leaky bath with massive damge to bottom of doors (we have been into 4 rooms). Baths need seals replaced as all covered in mouldy black dots so much bad that it's hard to find positives.Positive note, location, and gym. The gym is small but perfect for a quick workout before bed.

Really enjoyed our three night stay at the Hall Garth with added bonus that we were able to take our dog. Beautiful surroundings, good sized car park, really nice pool, good food and the breakfast is particularly lovely served in a beautiful garden room that opens out on the sprawling grounds, comfortable stay and easy to locate on the north side of Darlington. There was a wedding party in on one of the evenings we stayed though this did not ruin our stay in that there were no noise disturbances. The rooms are beautifully clean and the staff are very hard working and quite friendly.Would certainly come back and certainly recommend!

Where do we startOh yes the check in wrong name on booking had to prove wasn?t my fault by showing the booking reservation.Reception cluelessRoom standard old worn even after paying for an upgrade.Evening meal in what looked like a hostel waiting room with a bar restaurant closed because not enough people staying.Food oh well this is where they excel with a three course set meal. My partner having an onion allergy not being able to have any starter so asked for alternative which was comical when it arrived.Main meal not cooked correctly medium steak pouring with blood into a cheese sauce which was more like a natural yogurt. Not even to mention ten tables being served and the deputy manager having to compliment six tables due to complaints. No service at the table having to order at the bar.The room laid in bed with a smoke detector above the bed constantly flashing a white light every seven seconds all night.Bathroom shower no power room 45.Odd sized cups for coffee and tea refreshments. I know it?s a small matter but when added to all others it?s significant. Then breakfast surely it couldn?t get any worse well of course it can.Coffee coldNo toast offeredFull English meal sent backBacon not cookedCame back looking like dropped in a deep fat fryer to cook quickly and oil still dripping.Black pudding slab awfulBeans coldMushroom dripping in liquid because chef couldn?t be bother to use kitchen roll once cooked partially. Then the sausage just the one cut and could see the redness of raw in middle cut in half to show fully not cooked. All this after our order was given to the table next to us who came in fifteen minutes later meaning we waited thirty minutes for breakfast. When leaving the incompetent reception advised we had nothing to pay which I knew because they had taken money when arriving didn?t even ask if we had a nice stay or a goodbye.Obviously not wanting to ask because already knew the answer. Now having been a member at the gym on site for many years this was the first time staying in the hotel and as you can likely guess will be the last.Possible my worst stay in any hotel in County Durham I have ever encountered and we aim to have one night away each month so stay in plenty my advice save the money and book elsewhere
