Visited today and was very disappointed, ordered three sandwiches and a kids meal and it took a while to arrive to the point we finished our drinks. Food came the wrap was nice but fries were under done and coleslaw just tasted of salt. Mentioned it to waitress and she said nothing. They did take £1 off the bill when mentioning it when we came to pay but we won't be returning as the service was poor too.

Very poor service with over priced low quality food and apathetic staff.
Two young people serving on the bar covering an empty restaurant.
Very difficult to get service in the restaurant and the open kitchen is a terrible idea. Filthy looking kitchen with staff in beards who frankly don?t care if the order is wrong and openly state that when customers are sitting in front of them.
It?s a very tired feel and not worth a visit in my opinion.
Also the toilets were filthy and need a good clean
The he whole place has massively deteriorated since the last time

A bit of a mixed bag really. First impression were good from the outside, very nice. Upon entering we were greeted and told to take a table in the bar. Which had an open real fire - very cosy. However, I understand that the place is probably quite old. But IMO it needs an update to the decor and furniture. As for the food it was very average. Not the worst I've had but nowhere near the best either. But it was cheap so I suppose that's to be expected.

Good food and staff were nice, dining area we where sat in was freezing, there was heaters free standing, the rooms were quirky but a bit dated if im honest.

Booked a Christmas lunch. Ordered the lamb, OK, but veg served with it, carrot & parsnip were cold. Not enough veg either. Only a few sprouts served separately. No toasties or any other veg. Glass of fizz served with the meal was half a glass each. Christmas pudding was clearly shop bought microwaved with tiny amount of custard.
No salt & pepper in the table, no Chrietmas crackers or music playing. We left still hungry. Wouldn't return.

Been here twice before but the last time I came me and my family ordered and they didn't have one thing that we wanted, so we decided to get something else and they also did not have that. We ended up leaving and going somewhere else.

Hello, I give this place 1 star since I woke up with a toothpick inside my wife's pom pom when looking for something ?. We don't use tooth picks so must have been from the last person who stayed in the room. That tooth pick could of injured someone but luckily not.

The staff are very passionate about their work, very friendly. The breakfast was amazing and the evening meals too! The room was nice and typical of the age with all the classic features. Perfect for a days fishing on the lakes next door.

Beautiful pub tucked away in the Durham countryside. We ordered corned beef pie which came with homemade chips and proper pod ? peas which was delicious though could have been a bit warmer (I'm referring to the pie but delicious chips and peas were hot). We sat outside by the stream which was lovely. Can't comment on the interior of the pub as we only glimpsed when ordering but first impression was olde worlde and quite dark. Have seen a lot of comments about the accommodation being a bit drab and dusty but again didn't stay there so can't comment
Nearby activities: Great farm shop down the road. Ideal location to visit pretty Durham city and Beamish

Lovely pub in an idealic setting. We have stopped here several times whilst doing the C2C cycle ride and it's always been great. Lovely rooms, friendly staff, great breakfast and excellent evening food.
When the sun is out and you're sat in the beer garden.... what more do you need!!
