Had afternoon tea at Clarendons last week, it was absolutely lovely, great selection of both savoury and sweet, couldn?t fault it, the girls looking after us were lovely, it?s a really nice comfortable and friendly atmosphere, also very good value , I would recommend to anyone

Lovely cafe in the centre of Barnard Castle which has seating across 2.5 floors. The menus provides lots of options to suit every taste, which are all freshly prepared. The Bluey afternoon tea fpr the kids was brilliant and very well planned for a very reasonable price. Staff are very warm and welcoming, definitely worth a visit of you're in town

Fantastic afternoon tea. Every single detail was just perfect. The cook and waitresses were just amazing. We were all well looked after. So much food and everyone was really happy. Highly recommend xx

What a disappointment.
We got seated easily and the waitress who took our order was friendly and prompt, so that was a good start. But when our drinks arrived, the waitress (a different one) plonked the tray on our table, said, ?Here?s your drinks.? and walked off.
The espresso-based coffees were very poor: the latte was like hot milk and the flat white was like filter coffee with a dash of foamed hot milk.
The tea was served in a stainless steel pot, the lid of which was very hot and too tightly-fitting to open, so it was impossible to mash the tea to get it strong enough.
There?s only one (unisex) toilet, so we ended up using the public toilets out on the main street, rather than queuing for ages in a standing area that means you?re blocking access to the kitchen.
And while we were having our drinks a group of 8 people arrived with a prior reservation which none of the staff knew anything about.

Really nice cafe which caters for gluten free, with deserts and main meals. Note, if you get a sandwhich, the gf bread looks very similar to the non gf bread, however it is definitely GF so be rest assured! Really tasty pies however overall slightly on the pricey side.

Up to its usual fantastic performance, great quiche and chicken in honey and mustard.

Met with friends for afternoon tea today (Saturday 20th July). After some research for gluten free places in Barnard Castle this place came highly recommended. Advised on booking that needed one gluten free. This was no issue at all. All I can saw is WOW! I was stuffed and couldn?t eat it all. Lemon drizzle cake was amazing. Millionaires shortbread, sandwiches so fresh and on GF bread that didn?t fall apart lol. Staff are so friendly and attentive. Lovely tea room with plenty of seating. We will definitely be back and can?t wait to try the rest of the menu.

It is always pleasing when we enter a new eaterie, to find the place busy and bustling. Exactly the atmosphere we like to experience. The welcome was warm, we were soon shown to our seats.Despite Clarendons being very busy, our order was taken and our drinks soon arrived. It is always a good sign that the food did not arrive immediately. I have found that a short wait indicates the food is being freshly prepared. The food order arrived, piping hot and looking very appetising. It tasted as good as it looked. We had two very different orders but they were both very tasty indeed. The prices were very competitive as well. All in all a very pleasing lunch in very pleasant surroundings with a first class ambience. We will certainly return.

We only had 2 pots of tea and 2 cheese scones, and they were perfect. They have great efficient and friendly staff and we were lucky to get a seat. As we left it was packed.

My mum and I visited for an afternoon tea and it was absolutely beautiful. There was a lovely mixture of sweet and savoury. The soup was divine. The scones were delicious and the cakes were so tasty. We were always kept topped up with tea. The staff were very attentive and friendly. I would definitely recommend for afternoon tea and the lunches being served around us looked delicious too. We will definitely be back.

Came here with the hubby last week, just wasn?t for me. Staff were quite obnoxious and the food wasn?t up the standard for the high pricing. I hate to leave bad reviews, but when they?re due, they?re due.

Food was overpriced and average at best. Service was slow and lacking proper manners. When visiting a small town café, one expects an aura of friendliness, and to be welcomed. Unfortunately that just wasn't the case.I'm disheartened to have to leave this review, as I'm all for supporting local businesses. However, in this case, a negative review was warranted.

Overly priced food (not worth the price AT ALL) rude and unpleasant staff and and overall an unpleasant atmosphere. There are plenty better cafes and restaurants in Barnard Castle, don?t waste your money and effort here.
