Really enjoyed the food at The Crown. The menu is very expansive and all cooked well with the option to change things around. The service was casual and good with some friendly conversation. I would recommend trying the pies which were really good.

The flashy photos and on line marketing do not live up to reality. How much of the food is produced in- house? The long menu should have been a clue. The young staff do their best but need training in customer relations. And who was the man in shorts drinking coffees and beer from a bottle - he seemed to hold sway. Quality does not match price which compares reasonably to the local competition. But there is a long way to go here before food standards match that competition. Disappointing.

The accommodation was perfect for our family of five ( 2 adults and 14, 12, 10 yo). The family bedroom was large, at booking you can specify how many beds you want made up. There is a king-size bed for the adults and a single bed and two double sofa beds all in the same room. We have really struggled to find accommodation for two adults and three children without having to purchase two rooms, this was just perfect. It is also unusual to find one bed each for the children, as at other locations, two of them have had to share a double bed on occasions, but this was not the case here. It was easy to find, easy to park, the accommodation part of the pub is separate to the main building. The breakfast was served in the pub bar which was very lovely, you had to pre-order the night before, but this was not a problem. It was then cooked fresh for the time that you requested in the morning. We stayed for two nights and ante evening meals for both nights, which were delicious. There was something on the menu for everyone including a children?s menu and a varied adults menu. The pub dates back to the 16th century and has Thomas Hardy connections. The pub website does not do this place justice. They should sing more about the history and the family atmosphere that they can provide. There is a large beer garden with a kitchen garden and chicken coop. The staff were attentive, welcoming and helpful. The accommodation is around 30 minutes away from Longleat and Stourhead Gardens, so ideally placed for family visits.

So disappointed with the Sunday Roast. We used to come here for their 3 meat roast and were sorry this was no longer available. The roast beef we had was not great. The potatoes tasted as if they had been reheated, the cauliflower cheese was mushy and the beef was tough. The lady serving us was unfriendly and didn't smile. We won't be coming back.

Having seen the Crown had a new menu we thought we would give it a try as had a couple of nice roasts there , sadly it was really disappointing the goats cheese pasta with pear which for £17.50 was dry with no sauce and a small portion and the chicken burger with halloumi was also very average just heated up pub grub without any sign of home cooking . I appreciate a lot of people like basic pub grub but this was at elevated prices . Try the White Horse at Hinton st Mary , great home cooked food at similar prices all freshly cooked , you don?t have the choice you have at the Crown but you know it?s genuinely home cooked and not heated up from Brake Brothers even though you promote home cooked food .

We were warmly greeted on arrival and personally shown to our room. Very helpful gentleman carried our case, much appreciated! Our family room was enormous! 2 very comfortable double beds. There was a wonderful attention to detail throughout the room, lovely little details like fresh milk in the fridge and nice toiletries in the bathroom.

We were extremely comfortable here, from the moment the host came out to greet us. The standard of the room was better than at done pricier places, with great attention to detail: good range of tea bags, nice eco toiletries, good antique furniture, comfy bed. The rooms are named after Thomas Hardy?s characters (this being Hardy country). The bar has a 16th century wooden wall and a priest hole. The Neal was mixed: my husband?s fish and chips and homemade sticky toffee pudding were excellent. My ?chalk stream trout? was a small fillet with a nice sauce but soggy new potatoes. The breakfast was individually cooked from good quality, locally sourced ingredients.

This is how you run a pub with B&B!Beautiful room, spotless, large and airy, beautifully furnished. Plenty of parking and a lovely beer garden. Breakfast here was perfect and the chap serving who was also the chef was fab, very polite and food perfectly cooked. Will def return, highly recommend this gem of a place.

My friend and I booked to come here for a catch up and some dinner on a Thursday night. It was absolutely delicious!! I had only heard good things about The Crown and jokingly said to my friend that I would be disappointed if the food was anything less than perfect and it lived up to every expectation. The biscoff cheesecake is unreal! If you want somewhere to go for a fancy meal, a catch up or just a treat outside of cooking at home then this is definitely the place to go! I will 100% be returning and recommending to friends & family for the future

Welcoming. Main course good. Pudding disappointing, not homemade, not offered coffee which we could have done with to warm up. Very little heating if any so left rather cold. Good ample parking????????????????????????????????..::::

Can?t recommend this shop highly enough - Tom pulled together a full fortnight order for our family Christmas in Marnhull, nothing was too much trouble and he went out of his way to find the favorite brands that we liked. Also so lovely to witness how friendly and kind he and his wife are to their customers - clearly genuinely lovely people and valued members of the village community
Thank you so much for the great service! ??
