Endless loop here it seems.
Halifax slogan "its a people thing". I don't even know what that means. I guess it means you will talk to alot of people without getting anything accomplished. Their moto should be "go to nationwide" that's what I did, and it worked.

My wife and I had some time to go into the branch for a joint account. After waiting 25 min (which is fine) we were told we needed to book an appointment, which needlessly took another 15 min.
So I went to nationwide and they sorted us out then and there.
Then went back to Halifax where it took another 5 min to cancel my appointment
That's 45minutes, 15 short of the hour appointment I needed.
This business model is inefficient and I will be transferring all my accounts somewhere else who operates like a bank and not an expensive restaurant. Just crack on with it halifax, you are wasting a ton of my time and yours with this appointment malarkey.

Unreasonable and I would not book there again. They want appointments even for the smallest items and then cancel on you without notification. What a waste of time.

They did what I wanted them to do which was a basic wire transfer but it was as if it was an inconvenience and the staff member was kind of rude

As someone else has pointed out, the customer service in this branch is dire. Staff shouldn't act like you're bothering them when you ask for a simple request and there shouldn't only be one staff member available in the middle of a busy day.
