The King?s Arms may just be the perfect country pub. For starters, it sits in a pretty Devon village and has a gorgeous thatch. Once inside, what marketing kinds call its ?kerb appeal? is confirmed, and then some.I visited for food on Saturday night and was pleasantly surprised to see it lively and full, as country pubs all seemed to be once upon a time. No wonder, because the stove was lit, the beams prettily made up with fairy lights, the beer was great, AND the food too!Service here was very, very, very good. The landlord took it on himself to replace my beer free of charge when he realised my pint had been poured from near the bottom of the cask. I?d already drunk half of it without any complaints, but he wanted my drink to be perfect! The waitress too, upon seeing I?d drunk from a handle glass, came over to ensure I had the same for my next pint. In fact, the two young ladies who served us as waitresses were both lovely, friendly, and wonderful. The food was delicious. Jerk chicken wings and prawn jambalaya for me, prawn arancini and roasted lamb breast for my partner. I was going to wash it down with red wine but the landlord keeps such a good cellar that I remained with his beer. Finally, there are apparently ghosts here, which is reason enough to return in the summer, when my YouTube channel featuring a haunted pub crawl will commence. It?s a tough job, but someone has to do it!

All the staff where wonderful very helpfull and we all felt at home during our meal. I left a tip. Food was freshly prepared and plenty of choice of drinks. Parking can be tricky and isn't the pubs fault as it is located in the centre of the village.

Great pub, good selection of ales and beers, wine and gin. Restaurant has a good menu but is busy, so booking is advisable. Good location in the centre of Winkleigh. Friendly staff.

Good quality food, very tasty and a nice selection to choose from. Meal enjoyed by all in the group with each having something different.I would say it was "meat" heavy menu, However there was a good selection of different vegetarian dishes also avaliable, not the one option like some other country pubs. Can't comment on food alegry alternatives as none required on this visit.Lovely to see the products are locally sourced.Service was friendly and welcoming, really nice the log fire was lit as made it feel more cosy. Will be back!!

Locally sourced food.Visited initially for Sunday Roast. That was fantastic. We were tempted back for an evening meal. Again, locally sourced burgers (from the butchers across the road). Amazing, tasty burgers. Desserts were super too. Apple crumble highly recommended.

A warm welcoming pub, full of character with friendly locals and staff.Made to feel relaxed and at home straight away. Superbly cooked fresh food,a great menu choice, with an emphasis on local produce. Although the pub was extremely busy the service was quick, and nothing was too much trouble. We opted for the venison pie x 2 which was a proper pie,top and bottom crust, full of tender meat with a rice gravy,a well cooked mixture of fresh vegetables and good chips. A good bottle of Malbec,2 pints and a fantastic gooey sticky toffee pudding also homemade with clotted cream. The whole bill coming to £61,which we thought was exceptional value for money.. So much so,we had lunch there the next day too, trying 3 light lunches of beetroot cured Salmon, cheddar and apple tart and pigeon salad, all superb. We will be making the pilgrimage from Cornwall to the King Arms again in the not to distant future, truly memorable.,Top job?

I run 2 holiday cottages locally and recommend you in my welcome pack as a great place for lunch and dinner. Always a good menu of locally sourced produce, this changes fairly regularly which is great, good choices with something for everyone, a selection of local ales, cider and wines to accompany your meal, good service, lovely atmosphere and a roaring fire to welcome you in the winter months. A popular choice with my guests this season with some great feedback. Fiona (Colehouse Farm Holiday Cottages)
