Place is going downhill
We had a very bad experience in summer and yet again the restaurant was a disappointment this week. The food is not as good as it used to be. It?s awful. It?s overpriced , we felt like having poor take away. My husband said he never had a worse steak. To be precise onion rings , half tomato and one mushroom next to it! We couldn?t believe? If you don?t want to get ripped off don?t go. It?s a shame because it?s such a beautiful place with a wonderful view. I think the staff has changed in the kitchen. It used to be so good couple of years ago. We won?t be going back sadly.

Fabulous sea views. The hill to the venue is extreme for walkers and vehicles but pay parking is close by. The serving staff are very attentive and the food very good.

Had a lunch booking, didn't stay to eat. Welcome non-existent, service non-existent, surroundings tired and untidy, menu very limited. All in all very underwhelming, went to The Ness instead (which was lovely)

This is an odd hotel in that it has 5 star luxury rooms attached to a fairly basic 70s style pub. We had a beach suite and the location right down on the rocks was spectacular - the room had everything you could need - a spacious sitting room with lovely flickering log effect fire, huge bed, big bath and shower and complimentary sloe gin, wine, biscuits, crisps etc. Only criticism was that the lights in the bathroom came on automatically but if you were in the shower the sensor didn't pick you up so it went dark until you got out and at night it was very bright in there - no mood lighting if you wanted a relaxing bath. The staff were just so so friendly and welcoming but it was all let down by the pub which is like something out of the 70s with odd log effect benches with plastic seating and basic food. Breakfast is served on the bar. The breakfasts were huge. Dinner was certainly not even good gastrogrub. We had a chicken pie which was really expensive and I had a duo of fish which was overcooked and a bruschetta to start which was slightly burnt. Such a shame as we would go again for the room but not for the pub and food. There is a shuttle to take you up to the main road and The Waddling Duck at the top of the hill is fantastic - great food for the same money. We also went to The Elephant which was a superb Michelin experience and we were glad we didn't eat at the 'hotel' every night. Special thanks to Julie who went out of her way to post back some coats I had left behind!

Today was my second spa day at the Cary arms, and my second time with Steph. She is incredibly warm and welcoming and really does make you feel completely at ease. I?ve had a back massage before and the foot ritual today. Both times I left feeling like I was floating. Can?t say what the accommodation is like but the spa itself is relaxed and in a beautiful location. Highly recommend.

I had a GAIA HOT STONE MASSAGE with Steph today in the spa and can honestly say she is probably the best therapist I have experienced. She is amazing at her job and is clearly passionate about it. She is professional but also very friendly. Will definitely be going back.

I had a ?Balancing Journey? with Erin today. I have had these treatments all over the world and I can honestly say this is the best one I have ever had.
We are in Beach hut 3 with our dogs and it?s amazing watching ?sammy? the seal.
Staff can?t do enough for you. Food is excellent.
We would stay longer if we had time. Thank you to all the staff.

We loved our four night's stay at the end of November, it was everything we'd hoped for and more! We booked a beach hut hoping the mezzanine floor layout would give (one of) us an opportunity to practice juggling a 6 ball fountain. It was absolutely perfect for that, and was also a warm, luxurious space for the other one of us to spend time reading and looking out to sea. Food was excellent. We thought we would probably go to a restaurant in Torquay on one of our evenings, but in the end felt no need - there was enough choice, even for the vegetarian. All the staff were friendly and helpful. Wish the hotel was south facing, for the sake of sunrises, but that's the only negative and it's not in the hotel's power to change! The view all the way across the bay toward "Broadchurch" made up for it. Hoping to come again.

We stayed 2 nights in the Smugglers cottage just after new year . The cottage has everything you need . A great kitchen with the best view of the bay . There was some fresh bread ,butter, milk, cereal ,jams and coffee pods on arrival . The cottage has a fantastic double sided fireplace which heats the living room and kitchen . A bathroom with a magical view . The restaurant and bar serve some really great seafood . The seafood chowder was so good . We had to book both evenings as its popular . All he staff are great and seem very happy ..nothing was to much trouble . We did some walks from the house on the beach and to Torquay . We will definitely be coming back with friends to celebrate my birthday in the summer as the cottage has 3 double rooms . In the summer the terrace would be lovely in the evening and there is a BBQ which we did not use but would be fun in the evenings while admiring the view of the bay . We did not get a chance to try out the spa but will do next time .We had a look and the view is fab from there .Thankyou to all the staff at Cary arms .
Rooms: The beds were very comfortable
Food and drinks: Great food see the pictures
