A family run hotel, the host was very welcoming, spending time to take us around the hotel, with explanation. A unique idea of an 'honesty bar' treated as an adult, even having an actual room & front door key! Room was well presented, modern on suite & car parking spaces on site.
Walking distance to the sea front.
Would recommend this as how bygone age hotels used to be. You can even pay in cash!

My husband and I stayed here about three weeks ago. I would agree with a couple of other people on here. You do feel as though you are spoken to like a child. In a nutshell it is not a hotel but a guest house?..a great difference. On the upside it is very clean, nice room although the bathroom was built into the room hence is the size of a cupboard. Dinner is at seven, (no flexibility) and needed to be ordered day before. Breakfast was ok, bordering questionable for the price. We didn?t dine there, but we did go to the Riveria to eat on the second evening?.absolutely superb, from the food to the waiting. The name ?The Woodlands? is slightly misleading. We thought we would be graced with some kind of wood?..nope not at all?about three trees. The best thing about this place are the animals?dogs and chickens, lovely. Very expensive for what it is. £249 per night for B & B.
Ps Be aware of the car park, it is very tight, and small.

I booked this hotel for our 10 year wedding anniversary as a 2 night stay away without the children as a treat.
From arrival to departure, Dan and Megan couldn?t have been better hosts. Very welcoming and made the stay extra special with their friendly banter.
The room was very spacious and the bed was huge and so comfortable!
The whole hotel is spotless and the garden is beautiful. I enjoyed watching the chickens and CoCo their dog having fun in the garden from our window.
We ate in the restaurant on our first night, had breakfast both mornings and used the honesty bar. The food was perfectly cooked and very well presented. I?ve never used an honesty bar before but it was not a problem and actually quite a novelty to be bar lady for the evening!
The hotel has an easy access car park and is a perfect distance of a 5-10 min walk to the beach and shops.
We will definitely be returning and so pleased to have come across this lovely hotel.
Thank you for such a lovely stay. :-)

If ever you're going to Sidmouth you need to stay at this amazing beautiful hotel. Sidmouth has so much to offer yet I don't think you'll stay at such a friendly place. Dan, Megan and let's not forget Coco their labrador made our stay so very special from the moment we arrived. Fantastic welcome with full info as to what they do and have to
you are 100% clued up. We had room 11 and I fully recommend to request this room when staying there. They have other amazing rooms, we just loved our room - the shower is AWESOME! The hotel is immaculate throughout and the galleried landing is to die for !! The hotel is furnished to impeccable standards with Edwardian and Victoriana in the public areas and every comfort and service facilities are accommodated too in the rooms. I simply cannot fault this hotel, only to say don't be put off by the location on a roundabout. We heard no traffic till we were outside. They have lovely gardens with chickens which at the time of our visit had lost one so hope has been found. We chose to have dinner which on arrival needs to be ordered, which I completely get after running my own small hotel and really helps. Dinner was excellent as you'll see by the photos and the local wine matched perfectly. There is a huge conservatory overlooking the gardens with an honesty bar, to retire to after dinner (which we took full advantage of lol). The great thing I love too is , in the restaurant your room number is allocated to a table, so you don't have to wait to be seated for dinner or breakfast, you simply sit down at your table and they come to you. Breakfast was effortless with Ella and Eva as well as Dan and Megan looking after everybody, and the atmosphere was so relaxed ?
Massive thanks to the chefs too for finnercand sn amazing breakfast ??
Dan and Megan have been there 11 years and they have really got everything perfect ?????
We shall certainly be staying there in the near future
Huge hugs and love

We cannot fault a single thing at Woodlands Hotel. Dan, Megan and their daughter were very welcoming hosts. Beautiful room, comfy bed, fresh and clean, and peaceful. Great breakfasts and dinners had there. We were only booked in for 1 night but stayed for 2. Short walk into the city centre. Would highly a stay at the Woodlands Hotel.

I stayed over Easter weekend with my parents and we absolutely loved our stay at The Woodlands Hotel. When we arrived, the owner showed us around the hotel and was very friendly and gave us all the information we needed. Our rooms were located next to each other which was great! The rooms were spotless, finished with nice touches (biscuits and chocolate). The showers were great! I had a single occupancy room and it was spacious and really lovely. The breakfasts were also really good. The full English was lovely and there?s plenty of options with cereal, granola and fruit too. On Easter Sunday, we had an Easter egg on our table which was a lovely touch. We used the honesty bar which had plenty of options to drink and we played pool! Location was great and plenty of parking. Would definitely recommend and stay again. The owners were so friendly to talk too and made us feel very welcome.
