My husband and I stayed here for the evening and it was fabulous. Lovely, comfortable, clean and well equipped rooms - ours was a suite with a separate living room and jacuzzi bath. Fantastic dinner with brilliant service and delicious vegetarian food. Great local wines. The quiet night and a tasty breakfast was just what we needed to get us back on the road. We shall definitely return here whenever we are in the area.

Very limited menu, excellent quality, but at £14 for a kir Royal (almost ?18) there is still some left...
Food and drinks: On the limited menu we chose sea troat and got smoked salmon??? All side dishes had to be paid extra...although the quality of the chicken, steak and scallops was ok

My wife took me here for my birthday last weekend and we weren?t at all disappointed. We had the four course menu for dinner which we both really enjoyed. The waiter was relaxed and attentive. I would have welcomed some light background music, but given overall attention to detail that?s okay. The room was very nice and breakfast was on point.

Very expensive food for what it is. Prices are higher than London which is surprising

Rooms: Exceptionally comfortable room with a large bed and seating area. Coffee is fresh and plentiful. Toiletries are a welcome touch as is the private outdoor seating area.
Nearby activities: Excellent walking trail which lead you directly to Sidmouth with plenty of places for dogs to roam off lead. Flat and accessible for those who need. Sidmouth is a lovely place with plenty to do.
Walkability: Easily accessible rooms for those with mobility issues and lots of places to sit and relax in the beautifully manicured gardens.
Food and drinks: The food at the Salty Monk is superb. We opted for the 4 course evening meal and were not disappointed.
Breakfast is great also, making choices the night before ensures little wastage and means everything is fresh.

Beautiful accommodation, attentive staff, committed family owners, with quiet rooms on the garden side, and rather unusual for England: good food. Thank you very much. And last but not least: they financially supported our charity run from Switzerland to Cornwall (1000 mile walk). Thank you for the donation to the children's hospice in Cornwall.

We booked just for an evening meal so can?t comment on the rest of the establishment. However the dining areas were clean and tidy and the courtyard garden we could see was well tended; nothing to say the rest of the business was any different. We were greeted promptly and in a friendly manner. The choices on the menu were all very tempting so ended up eating way more than we should have?.The service continued to be friendly and well timed. It felt like time was taken to tend to us, rather than just a rush in and serve. The food; Excellent. Well presented and very tasty indeed. The starters were a good size and the flavour mix just right. My steak was flavoursome and tender whilst being cooked just to my liking. My wife enjoyed her chicken dish just as much.An establishment that deserves its high quality status and one we will definitely be returning to. Highly recommend a visit to the restaurant here.

This hotel is simply exceptional. Rooms are great - spacious, clean and very comfortable beds. The food is on another level. Michelin star without the price or fuss. Cannot recommend it highly enough.

The most fabulous food, really welcoming and the most amazing building. Scouring TripAdvisor and noticing the Salty Monk as we drove by, my wife and I were impressed by the reviews, plus they?re dog friendly, and we chose to book dinner. Booking online was easy, and it shows care and passion being asked to provide a deposit to secure the booking. As we were in a short holiday break we can?t leave our dogs elsewhere, since they are two big Bernese Mountain dogs, and too be honest they?re family. As we say if they don?t allow, well behaved, dogs we aren?t coming either! We arrived and had received a warm welcome from the proprietor and immediately you notice the stringing building and decor. Part of the property is very old and full of character and has been considerately extended. The dining area was clean and welcoming. We didn?t go with small plates, instead opting to ?save ourselves? for what was the most amazing and inviting choice of main courses and deserts. We did however spy that they had a selection of bruschetta in the nibbles selection on the drinks menu and had these to start, which were so good we had another round. I had the fillet steak and Tortellini with a side of broccoli whilst my wife had the plaice. Both dishes looked and tasted amazing and packed with flavour. By desert we were starting to get full so we shared the house speciality being a baked Alaska, which once again was fabulous. We had the most amazing experience, it?s a foodies dream restaurant and we?ll definitely be going back again. We hadn?t realised at first but its also possible to stay at the Salty Monk, where they have 7x differently themed rooms. These rooms all look fabulous, plus they?re a dog friendly establishment, so maybe next time when we?re on our next short break holiday.
