The Lamb dish was delicious, as was the fish and chips. The garden spacious. The staff friendly and polite. The deserts were not as good as the main, portion of ice cream was small and not as advertised. We would definitely return for the main course, the service and the garden which were all great.

GEM OF A PLACE We were based in Cheriton Fitzpaine for 10 days and this became our regular hangout. We ate here 3 times during our stay, every meal was great, especially Sunday lunch, which was outstanding.
But also used as a pub as well, soon got to know the regular locals who were super friendly. All the staff were absolutely fantastic not forgetting Scampi (the resident dog). Couple of things to consider, check opening times, and be prepared to book for meals, especially at the weekend.

Relatively remote pub, about a twenty five minute drive north of Exeter (general direction of where we were coming from).
Greeted warmly upon entry to the pub, and even though we'd turned up well before our pre-booked time, we were allocated a table quickly, even though the pub was starting to fill up quickly.
A choice of four starters, four mains (two of which are meat roasts) on a Sunday (more than four choices of dessert are available). However, despite sounding like a limited menu, it is actually quite eclectic.
I chose the black pudding croquettes with fried egg mayonnaise as a starter. To be fair if you'd have blindfolded me, and I didn't know what I was eating, I could possibly have identified the croquettes, but wouldn't have had a clue about the mayonnaise (which had strong horseradish overtones). No matter, it was delicious anyway.
There was plenty of meat on my plate for my roast beef dinner, which was accompanied by roast potatoes, a Yorkshire pudding, broccoli gratin and hispi cabbage. If you want horseradish sauce with this you need to ask for it.
I couldn't face a heavy dessert so instead went for a single scoop of vanilla ice cream, served with olive oil and sea salt. I've never seen this on a menu, but a combination that bizarrely works.
Attentive, but not overly obtrusive staff, ensured we were not rushed. It's a very intimate pub with space used to good effect, meaning you don't feel crowded.
We'd read the glowing reviews on Google, and decided to drive roughly one hour from our home town. It was well worth the effort.
Bill breakdown: starter £5,main £19, dessert £4. Left feeling satisfied, but not bloated. There is a small community car park ahead of the pub, with some street parking available in the village.

Arrived today 14:02 to be told they had stopped serving their great food and was told to look at the sandwich menu, we love this pub and I guess it?s our fault not booking a table , but advertising food all day on Saturday and not is a bit of a shame and especially missing the cut off by 2 minutes and the pub being empty , we always have 3 courses and buy drinks , so I guess it?s your loss .
Maybe change your website to correctly reflect your operating hours - such a shame as your food is great.

Average food, average service, limited atmosphere.
The main problem was, sticky floors, sticky tables with fly crap all over them.
It felt like the whole place needed a good scrub with bleach and a really deep clean. It was generally grubby.
If this is front of house and the areas you can see, it does make you wonder what the kitchen is like!

Lovely, friendly staff. Gastro pub style food with a reasonable price tag, served in a cosy, romantic traditional pub. Loved the sheeps wool covers on the seats & the beautiful fresh cut flowers on each table. A real little gem after a long day bike riding ?

Oh my word! Fantastic dinner at the RIng of Bells last night. Serious, grown up cooking and flavour combinations with top quality local ingredients, in the most charming pub, with punctual friendly and relaxed service. Would give it more than 5 out of 5 if I could!

Our first Sunday lunch here and it held up to expectations. Beautiful food, great service, and a very good atmosphere. Imagine it's the place to go in summer too.
