I cannot express how much I?ve fallen in love with this hotel. Firstly an incredibly warm welcome from James, Kieron & Millie on our arrival, to the constant attention to detail and can do attitude thar has defined our stay.
The rooms are gorgeous, the food sensational and the staff are just bloody all round brilliant.
I will cry when I leave and can?t wait to come back.

Went for dinner, amazing setting looking over beach. Food was very good and lovely cocktails, but as you would expect from a hotel, expensive!

South Sands Hotel Salcombe. Everything exceeded our expectations. Family of four - two teens and two dogs. Absolutely fabulous short break. Beech front facing room, in a great location. Lovely atmosphere. Friendly staff with a non intrusive welcoming feel.
Food was amazing. Would highly recommend the monk fish curry.
Very clean and thoughtfully decorated with a modern light theme, without being too sterile.
From reception to departure it was excellent. Thank you.

We called in a couple of times for drinks and coffees, we found the staff to be extremely friendly and personable and the ales were local and were excellent. The location is really lovely, overlooking the beach and if we weren't staying in a motorhome at Higher Rew then this is the hotel we would stay at.

We stayed at South Sands Hotel for two nights to celebrate my partner?s birthday. We?re regular visitors to the area but this was our first time staying at the hotel itself ? and overall, it didn?t disappoint.
The location is unbeatable, right on the beach, and the interior decor is beautifully done ? stylish, coastal, and inviting. We were especially impressed with how dog-friendly the hotel is, and our room was lovely, although being on the top floor, it did get quite warm.
The food throughout our stay was excellent, from breakfast through to dinner ? fresh, well-cooked, and beautifully presented.
There were a couple of small areas where service could be improved. Dinner service felt a little average, with some of the waiting staff needing to check in more proactively and a few tables served before us despite sitting us down before them. We also had a moment at the bar where a waiter (who seemed to be from the restaurant team) walked past without even an acknowledgment, which felt a little off. That said, the head waiter (a blonde gentleman) was absolutely fantastic ? attentive, professional, and a real asset to the team.
A small point, but a full-length mirror in a better location in the room would be appreciated ? just a practical tweak.
Overall, we had a fantastic stay and would definitely recommend South Sands to others. It's a premium experience with a price tag to match, so a few small service refinements would help it feel truly top-tier. Looking forward to returning again soon.

Great location, wish there were more fish options on the menu/ for breakfast. Friendly staff.
It is nice, though rooms are quite warm and can hear everything in the corridor as walls are thin.

A last minute booking having heard about ?Salcombe Crab Fest? at Dawlish Food Festival?so we looked at trains n buses n realised we had to stay somewhere to experience it?we found here?and wowsers, it?s stunning with great views, service, staff, restaurant and breakfast. You could be anywhere 5* ,it?s that good?.sometimes one night really great is better than two nights of ?ordinary?

Venue and facilities are fantastic . The food is very good although somewhat disappointed with the menu. There was very little seafood variety - no scallops, king prawns, calamari, lobster, fish of the day, etc The service was average, but not exceptional. Most off-putting was the 'discretionary' 12.5% service charge which isn't discretionary at all - it's simply added to the bill

Went for a hot chocolate and a mocktail after a hike. Sat outside, sign said to order inside.
Went to the bar inside and ordered the drinks.
Was charged a 12.5% service charge, queried this and was told that it was displayed on the menus. This is the case for their printed menus inside, but not on the online menu (the outside tables had a QR code to this).
Explained I wasn't happy with this, but was not offered a refund for this.
I was then asked to wait whilst the drink was made so I could then carry it to the table.
15 minutes later the hot chocolate still wasn't with us, so chased this, which is when they started making it.
I have never been charged a non-advertised service charge to order at the bar, wait and then carry the drinks to the table myself.
