Ideally situated for exploring Dartmoor, perfect for our break. There was no breakfast onsite which we were informed of when booking. However, we had a lovely brunch at Ullacombe farm just up the road. The hosts were friendly and helpful. Providing a travel cot for our little one on short notice.

The place has stopped operating as a hotel. It?s now more of an Airbnb. You get a key to your room and that?s it. No bar, no restaurant, not even a fridge or microwave. In fairness they went out of their way to make this clear when I booked and I accepted it was room only. But the building and location don?t work very well as Airbnb, especially not out of season. The hosts daughter and family inhabit part of it but there?s a kind of ?Shining? feel to the building, mostly in darkness at night, all on its own on the edge of Dartmoor. Not a welcoming vibe. The room was comfortable but lacking in TLC. The bathroom needed modernising. I never heard from or saw the proprietor from arrival to departure. When I became sick and needed to leave early there were no cab companies listed in the info they?d left and no one was answering either the mobile or landline numbers they supplied. I had to bang on the daughter?s front door to get any attention . She had no local connections, to my surprise, so the only cab driver prepared to pick me up wanted 50% more than I?d paid to get there in the first place. The accommodation certainly isn?t worth what they charged me. I think they need to decide whether they are still in business or not. If they are, then reclaim the place and make it sing!

Edgemoor MANOR is effectively a small number of modest rooms bolted onto the side of a new owners? personal home - except the owners seem to have no interest in actually having/hosting guests but are using this as a side gig to cover the costs of running their residential home. They are capitalising on the reputation that Edgemoor HOTEL has clearly built up over many years, charging the same rates, but with none of the same facilities (eg a commercial kitchen) or with any Devon warmth and charm. The owners made us feel unwelcome from the moment we arrived, the building was run-down and smelled of sewage (but the rooms were fine, modest and clean) and we paid £120.Overall, this felt dishonest and like a scam. For guests looking to stay here, if you were charged ~£60 per night and knew you were effectively kipping in someone?s home where the owners didn?t really want to interact with you - then this is for you, else, I?d recommend going elsewhere in the area.

Staying in Baskerville Retreat just behind the hotel which has been converted to a holiday cottage. What a lovely place and a great week I've had with my German Sheppard Ziggy. We've been out and about enjoying all the great walks. The Cottage is lovely and I hope to return with the family once the cottage next door is finished and ready for rental. Very friendly and helpful owners. Would highly recommend.

When we arrived we were told that we had been given an upgrade which was a lovely surprise. We stayed for 2 nights and had the full English breakfast each morning, we also had dinner one evening. The food was delicious. Cooked really nicely and everything tasted great. The staff were really polite and helpful. We don't live far away but just wanted a nice quiet break and it was exactly what we had hoped for. We really look forward to staying again, although they do book up fast!!Recommended to anyone

We visited the Edgemoor Hotel for a long weekend in February. The staff were extremely helpful, attentive and polite (particularly the young man at reception, who I unfortunately can't remember the name of!), and nothing seemed like too much trouble for any of them. They gave us a free room upgrade to a wonderful room with a view over the front. The breakfast was delicious and there was lots of choice. I would definitely recommend.

Just back from a Sat night stay at Edgemoor Hotel. January stays are a real test of a Hotel stay as it's right at the end of everything and on top of this; the current COVID situation. That said, Edgemoor passed with flying colours! The staff team reduced to the fantastic Chloe for our brief stay, didn't matter as Chloe rushed around and remained ever friendly, helpful and present when needed! I'm not sure how she accomplished this, unless Edgemoor have cloned her (which would be a really good idea). When we came to leave, our dog Woody remained laying in the room and looked at us as if to say "and why would we want to leave?" (He was wonderfully included in our cooked breakfast with his own sausage!).This hotel is a treat for dog lovers and we were given our own separate room at dinner and breakfast as Woody was joining us which was a great idea, preventing any other guests not as fond of dogs as us from being hassled by our hound and also giving us a quiet peaceful dinner without having to continually reign in our hound from exploring the wonderful dinner smells of other guests.A lovely evening relaxing in the comfortable lounge with a fire, sofas and other guests to chat with.We spent the weekend at two hotels and whilst the other was also very nice too, Edgemoor was the best this weekend! Well done Chloe and the fantastic chef whose 2 in 1 pie was without doubt also the highlight dish eating out this weekend.
