I went there because the opening hours said they were open but they were not. Because of the convenience to where I live I was prepared to overlook the fact that many items are overpriced. It?s a real shame because it?s a great little shop that I would love to use more. The little things though, like incorrect or sporadic opening hours and especially things being overpriced means it?ll remain quiet. It?s called ?costcutter? but don?t let that name mislead you, supermarket prices it ain?t.

Costcutter Supermarkets Group is an embarrassment to Newton Abbot. They are operating the town's main post office under contract from Post Office Ltd. Due to an oppressive working culture, most of the post office staff have recently resigned, forcing the post office to effectively close, except for the small post office counter on the main shop counter. Costcutter took on the contract from the post office with an agreement that they would provide adequate post office services to the people of Newton Abbot. They have not done this and now have a post office which is open from 9 am to 3 pm and only has 1 temporary counter, which is not fit for purpose. Costcutter has taken a 7-counter post office down to a single counter and does not have staff to operate it. With Christmas coming, avoiding this store would be a good idea. As a matter of urgency, Post Office Ltd needs to strip Costcutter of their contract and find new premises in Newton Abbot to operate from as this cannot be allowed to go on.

*EDIT*\\nI previously wrote a review here 2 months ago about how half the shop staff were rude, badly-trained and lacked basic customer service skills.\\nAlso, the food labels were not updated correctly for weeks.\\n\\nHowever, it is only fair to say that, during the past few weeks, the shop staff are now much friendlier (and the rude ones don't seem to be there anymore), whilst the food labels are all up to date as far as I can tell.\\nAs such, it is now a much better place to shop than a couple of months ago.

Half of the staff are polite and friendly.But the other half are rude, confrontational, arrogant and lack any basic customer service skills (such as even smiling or saying hello, let alone having the intelligence to offer customers a receipt after buying items etc...).Good luck to you if you're faced by one of the badly-trained, incompetent 'grunters' if you decide to visit as a customer!The food selection is dull yet over-priced; food labels are not updated correctly for weeks (if they are ever on display in the first place); and the ruder / more stupid staff members are unwilling to listen to any constructive advice about their errors, instead preferring to arrogantly pick arguments with customers and trot out excuse after excuse for their inability to do even half a job properly.In Newton Abbot, this shop has a reputation as being a 'bit sh*t' compared to the other mini supermarkets in our town, not least because of how the incompetent, badly-trained staff couldn't give a toss about treating customers with any respect. I feel sorry for their more competent and pleasant colleagues having to work alongside such low-quality people.

The Post Office staff are always friendly and helpful.The Cost Cutter staff are always in uniform and polite. The shop has a reasonably good selection for a convience store. Great stuff.

A small food market or larger convenience store, depending which way you see it. Stocks a limited array of products but prices are good. Delivery service available.
