Stayed here for a short break Monday to Friday to spend one day on Lundy island and two days walking the South West Coast path - Combe Martin and Ilfracombe respectively
if you have an early breakfast at 0800 and are ready to leave it is possible to walk to the harbour in 10 - 15 minutes - it is all downhill - if you already have your tickets you can just queue up for the boats
There is a swimming pool, cinema, restaurants nearby (the Carlton does have a brasserie)
I was in a single room and paid on arrival -
A lot of updates have happened and it looks good - being slightly out of the harbour area it is quieter
Did not use the car park as I arrived by bus and it is accessible by public transport

The Brasserie restaurant is a hidden gem. Top class fine dining and magnificent cocktails. Do not miss this if you are in Ilfracombe

Situated long way from beach, on a road where unfortunately most of properties are closed, derelict! Such a shame. Hotel is spotless but rooms and restaurants are absolutely tiny!

Nice modern hotel with really friendly staff and owner. Breakfast is good and they?re an able to accommodate early starts for boat trips with cereals and toast.
Had a blip with the guest WiFi network on the first day, thankfully the owner gave me access to the non guest network which, as advertised on the website, was super fast! Hopefully the guest network issue can be resolved.
Would recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Ilfracombe

Hotel lovely, food very nice but portions are a bit on the small side. Bit of a walk to the front. Wouldn't recommend to anyone with mobility issues as Ilfracombe very hilly.

If you smoke don't do it, I got harassed every time I went out for a cigarette to leave my room key. Was also called at 10am being told I need to leave my room for repairs to be done and they didn't care. Would never go back awful service

One of the best roast dinners we have ever eaten. High quality ingredients, cooked to perfection. Serving staff were very attentive. Looking forward to coming back very soon!

Went for lunch on Easter Sunday, fantastic meal, staff friendly and welcoming especially Kelsey. The ladies toilet were spotlessly clean with handwash/ hand lotion, well done Claire. Parking on site, fantastic location, on the flat, the outside could do with painting a different colour. Would definitely recommend.

We stayed at the hotel from 12th Sept -17th.
2024 in Room 104. The hotel, food and service were brilliant. This room is too small for two people, but was very nice. I struggled to reach the clothes rail in the wardrobe it was much too high. We would certainly book the hotel again. All the staff we brilliant.
Graham and Chris Ball.
Food and drinks: Restaurant quality food.

This hotel offers a 5 star service from owners to all staff who go out of their way to make your holiday special.
On arrival we were made to feel very comfortable and at ease, check in was quick and easy.
The rooms were furnished and decorated to a high standard. Everything we needed was in the room.
We travelled as a family with our dog and elderly parents the hotel caters for the disabled with a lift and access ramp I would like to say a special thankyou to Michael the owner for the very kind way in which he treated our dog Stanley. By the end of our stay Stanley had only to hear his voice and he knew he was to be fussed and given a treat, dogs are welcome everywhere in the hotel.
We stayed bed & Breakfast and found the breakfast exceptional. We also dined two nights and I must say I had the best steak I'd ever had. Eliot is an exceptional chef and his food is delivered to the table hot and well presented.
The location of the Carlton is perfect for exploring Ilfracombe and North Devon,
We will definitely be returning in the future and have no hesitation recommending this hotel. We can't wait to come back!
