Location was good with short drive to Saunton Sands, Croyde and Woolacombe.
Very quiet location in the valley.
Stayed over Xmas, Christmas day booked lunch at the restaurant on site and was lovely really nice food and good service.
Unfortunately though the lodge we hired wasn't what we expected. Nice enough layout but was freezing cold with heating issues.
After complaining about 3 times regarding the heating, the owner came to the lodge with a total attitude problem speaking to us like dirt! Before explaining he controls it and comes on at 7-11am and 5-9pm which wasn't ideal when returned back at 3pm in the afternoon with no heat at just 14c!
He did then change it to on constantly but again didn't work and we had to manually keep overriding from the bathroom boiler for radiators to work!
On top of this can hear every movement when someone else goes to the toilet etc in the lodge at night, no sound proofing and old fashioned door latches so didn't get decent sleep either.
Wouldn't stay here again due to these issues.

We visited Hidden Valley for a week's holiday with our dogs. We had a great holiday, the staff are really helpful and friendly. Listening to the stream, owls and birds is lovely. The site is next to a road but the traffic noise wasn't too bad. The cafe/bar is newly decorated, serves meals from 12.00 including afternoon tea. You can sit inside or outside looking over the lake and all dog friendly. We had a lovely meal on the evening there. Toilets and showers clean and well maintained. Easy access to main roads for exploring beaches and towns. There is a children's playground and children can play in stream. The prepayment of electric wasn't a problem abs was easy with a card and then any credit refunded. It worked out at £5 a day running the fridge, hot water and occasionally the heater. We will definitely be returning.

A tired site which isn?t 5 stars.
Having stayed at other nearby campsites we have passed by this site for many years and this year we thought we would try it.
But! Oh dear, the signage at the entrance didn?t really shine with 5 stars! And didn?t really invite us in! and then the site office looked different from the website and no sign of the Lake side restaurant! just a café and bar!
We looked back over the sites Facebook page and noticed that the site had work done on the café, which to be honest was nice, but the changes haven?t been made clear on the website and they have in fact halved the size of the room. But the outside lights and cladding hadn?t been completed! And it was closed Monday and Tuesday!
The toilet / shower block ? well again I noticed that they had this refurbed in March (FB) this year! well I hope they didn?t pay for it! Yet another incomplete project! I noticed down the side of the wash basins, what looked like some sort of electrical box (with a crack in it and a wire hanging out)!
Worst showers of our trip. Took ages to heat up and hardly any power in them.
Not sure on the cleaning routine they had? no toilet paper in one cubical at 8am and still none at 10 am.
The steps up to the toilet block have wooden edges that are very slippery in the wet.
They whole campsite felt tired in a way I?ve never seen a campsite look. Unkept pitches full of weeds, broken streetlights (flashing all night), unreadable road signs, pillars and railings that need a lick of paint, potholes in the road!
There are strict signs saying that you must keep everything on the hard standing and off the grass, but the grass is full of weeds and hadn?t been cut for some time! BBQ bricks left on the pitch, rubbish as well, (we had a left over toothbrush on ours). Walking around the site it felt more like a caravan storage facility than a 5 star campsite.
No camper vans on the grass pitches! I?ve never had this before ? but then found out it?s because some people got stuck and the owners got fed up towing people off their pitches. (But you can park a car, pick up or van on the same pitch! As long as you don?t cook or sleep in it!)
So, in the style of a TV programme.
Out of 10 - How would you rate your host ? 4
Out of 10 - How would you rate the facilities ? 2
Out of 10 - How would you rate the overall site ? 3
Would we stay again ? NO
On a positive note ? great recycling facilities.
So sorry, a great site once in its lifetime but no way 5 stars and anymore. I would give it 2 stars maybe 3 at a push.
Time to freshen up and maybe new signage! Oh, and update the website!

Just had 7 nights at this site, was a last minute thing for us , and we were really pleased with everything there, staff were excellent, showers were spot on, the walks in the woods was a bonus, and to top it all, the bus stops every 30mins at the gate , one way to Ilfracombe, the other you could end up in Westwood ho , very cool, it looked like the restaurant and bar was gradually being done up ( I do pubs up for a living so for me just needed bric a brack and bits to make it more like a pub environment) , but tbh we loved having a drink there ,
All in all 5 stars from us, and we will be back for sure .

A good camp site, well located with good services and good-sized pitches. I'd echo other comments in that it is unfortunate being next to a main road that results in traffic noise at all times. You can't help but hear the lorries in the evening and we were woken up on a couple of nights by cars racing past. I imagine it is less of an issue in a camper or caravan but it is noticeable in a tent. The woodland walk is a nice thing to have, and the staff are super helpful and friendly. I would recommend, even with the noise.
Nearby activities: Well located for Barnstaple, Saunton Sands, Woolacombe and Ilfracombe.
Walkability: Good woodland walks from the site.
Noteworthy details: The site has electric meters on each pitch, however we stayed five nights, running a fridge and charging phones/tablets and only used £3.76, so not expensive.

I kept driving by the sign saying coffee and cakes and finally decided to go in. Glad I did. Lovely place. Coffee and cake both nice and building much nicer than expected. Will definitely go again.

We are here for 2 nights currently. A lovely site in general with good, clean facilities and friendly staff.
Great location with a stream running through the site.
Small bar/café and reception/shop with basics.
Electric is payable via a pre-paid card but anything you don't use is refunded on departure.
We have a small, hard-standing pitch with own water supply.
There is a woodland walk which is great for dogs but parts of the top level are very steep and uneven. Other parts are currently blocked off.
We have noticed a lot of road noise. We are on the the highest level though so may not be as noticeable from the lower tiers.
Great location to visit Barnstaple & Ilfracombe areas and Saunton Sands is only 15 minutes away by car which is a huge, dog friendly beach with plentiful parking.

Stayed here in our motorhome recently after our original site let us down. So glad they did because this place is amazing. Stayed on a serviced pitch with plenty of space with a stream and wildlife a plenty. Great woodland walks. The staff could not be more helpful even to the extent of driving down to the local shops to top up our food. Amazing place, will definitely be back.
