Not impressed. I had a Ploughman?s. Grated cheese. Ham was ok. Pickle was bit of sweet pickle and some silverskin onions. Salad sliced thickly with large pieces of onion. Shop bought coleslaw. 2 slices of nondescript bread and butter.. Badly in need of a makeover. Yesterday had takeout Bakewell slice. It was delicious but I got the bit with hardly any toasted almonds. Other pieces were better presented. Given the time of year, & how quiet they were I would expect better. If I were them I would hope for future custom.I thought it was a bit pricey for what it was. I?d be happy to pay for food with a bit of thought to presentation. The surroundings were perfect. I should imagine they are busy in the Summer because of this decor. I would pare down the menu and do really good food, especially in Winter to keep costs down. (3 soups were on the menu. I did not try these.)Staff indifferent. Again, serving the public is not easy, but you need to be welcoming in this environment.

Very average. Ordered rice crispy bun which was days stale. Mentioned to the waitress who sorted it out and was helpful but they continued selling the stale rice crispy slices none the less

Avoid avoid avoid. Over priced, inconsistent cake portions (we ordered 3, all came as different sizes). The cakes were consistent in so far as all had a thick, chewy, cleggy consistency.Service was slow and it was not busy. Having now read other reviews and based on our experience, lack of customers is unsurprising.Kid-friendliness: Not veryWheelchair accessibility: Not if you want to move around or get into the cafe - crowded tables. Loo is upstairs, so no access

Purchased two takeaway sandwiches each costing £5.99. Sandwich fillings were tasty and plentiful, the bread however was cheap and nasty. At this price you expect both the fillings and bread to be of decent quality. Disappointing.

We recommend this tea room in the heart of Dartmouth. Friendly staff and superb cakes and food. We visited three times during our stay.

Great inviting place with delicious treats to ruin your diet!! Highly recommend fruit scones, jam and cream. My waist is glad we are not local. Lovely staff. Only downside are the ancient toilet s up windy staircase. Really need to be updated.

Mad Hatters Tea Shop is fab, good food, friendly and efficient staff, reasonably priced and quite quaint In it?s own way. We visited twice during our holiday in Dartmouth and both times were excellent. It is not a huge place but they are well staffed, The staff are very helpful, very happy to tailor menu items to your specific dietary requirements and take an interest in their customers, they asked to see our daughters art works on our second visit which made her day. The food is very good and plentiful, sandwiches and toastiest are well filled and come with a full side salad, the drinks are of good quality and the cakes, although we didn?t try them because we were full from our lunches, looked absolutely lush and the scones looked delicious and all the people eating them seemed to be enjoying them immensely. I have awarded them four out of five simply because although everything I?ve mentioned was great there were two small points that made our visit not quite perfect, firstly the toilet is up a rather steep set of stairs which I found quite difficult to navigate and there doesn?t seem to be any facilities for any one with a disability to use, and lastly the cold drinks are not refrigerated, they do serve them alongside a glass with a little ice but it didn?t do much to chill our drinks on the hot days we were there and room temperature orange juice isn?t very good on the palette. Other than that Mad Hatters in Dartmouth is a really great place for very good, competitively priced food and fast efficient and friendly service. Special shout out to the chap working at the counter who pointed us in the right direction for a post box , we would never have found it without him.

Great choices on the menu and great friendly staff, highly recommend a visit. Everything from a lot of tea, to a meal, sandwiches, ploughmans to afternoon tea. Cake choices out of this world. Make a visit, you will not be disappointed

We were in Dartmouth during the regatta week when unfortunately things can get expensive and cafe/restaurants fill up. We wanted a lunch and came upon The Mad Hatters tearoom. The menu was on a board outside and there was plenty to choose from at reasonable prices. I had a crab and cucumber sandwich and the wife had a sausage bap. They were both delicious. The sausages were from a local butcher and they were excellent. My sandwich came with a side salad and was really tasty and freshly made. Very friendly staff and a large pot of tea. Just what we were looking for.

Mad Hatters looks quaint and inviting on the outside but is a little run down on the inside. Sadly the 'Alice in Wonderland' theme didn't quite hit the mark, with someone only seemingly having a half-hearted attempt at it. On the plus side though, contrary to the experiences of others, the service was actually ok. It was very busy on the day we went, but we didn't have to wait long to be seated and our orders were taken and indeed brought to us fairly quickly. There were 4 of us; drinks all round, 2 sausage rolls, a pasty and chips and a panini cost just over £45. The price was kind of what we expected as it's in Dartmouth. However the food received didn't really warrant the cost. The sausage rolls looked and tasted like they had been heated in a microwave with the tell-tale sign of soggy pastry. The chips were missing from the pasty meal but this was rectified quickly with an apology so no harm done. Unfortunately the pasty also looked like it had been heated in a microwave and the meat inside was dry and chewy. The panini was ok. Overall this was a disappointing visit which was then made worse when we saw the prices for takeaway food. We paid £3.99 for each of the sausage rolls but the takeaway price was £1.99. The pasty and panini were also much cheaper. I know when you sit in to eat there is a standard VAT charge of 20% added, but we paid double which is 100%. That is naughty and the quality of the food received really is not reflected in the price. For that reason I would not recommend eating here.

Absolutely awful! There was a table seated after us but served before us. We were sat in a corner and forgotten about. We had to ask to have our order taken after waiting 15 minutes, food was very low quality, normal bread (not thick fresh good quality and for £11 for a sandwich, you'd expect decent bread atleast) basic side salad, plain lettuce, half a tomato & 2 small piece of cucumber, expensive for the quality. Had to ask for the table to be cleared and the kids ice cream after 20 minutes of waiting. Staff stood around doing nothing, member of staff complaining she was the only one doing anything in front of customers! Not a nice atmosphere, place and certainly not value for money! Sadly, would not recommend or go back.

We had cappuccinos and an ice coffee, with chocolate cake, caramel shortcake and cherry shortcake. Food was average. Attentive staff.

Lovely little tea room. Gorgeous cakes. Table service. Only toilets are upstairs via narrow, steep winding staircase. Not suitable for those in wheelchairs. Nearest toilets for disabled are in the local park about a 5-10 minute stroll away.Wheelchair accessibility: Wheelchairs in use cannot fit in this tea room. If person is able to walk a few steps then the wheelchair may be folded and left by the tables but there is no suitable toilet for the disabled.
