Bit of a disappointment really, as far as restaurants go. Seems more set up to be a hotel first and restaurant second. Dinning room lacked any welcoming atmosphere and the food was average. Long drive from cities like exeter.

We have just spent a lovely break at the Fox and hounds. Our first visit but wont be the last! Rooms are imaculate, staff go over and above to make sure all is well, food is amazing and the hotel grounds proved to be a lovely exploring trip for our little dog who was also well looked after!! How this haven is only rayed 3 stars I'll never know, we have stayed in 5 star accommodation which hasn't been as good! Tried to book for Christmas but, of course, all booked up! Maybe next year!! Many thanks to ALL the staff xKim and Angela LeonardRooms: Beautiful and comfortableWalkability: Lovely walks especially for dogsFood & drinks: See above

Great food and atmosphere in a lovely location. Were able to cater to our requirements with a little bit of notice too.

4 stars for brilliant staff and service. Food was lovely too. Great tranquil location, lovely gardens, beautiful woodland walks close by. Downside for us was soo many dogs, don't mind pet friendly but they were everywhere. Breakfast and dinner they were at just about every table, whining and calling to other dogs, it was a bit too much for us but to be fair we didn't realise it was as pet friendly as it was. If you have doggy companions it's a dream location. 3 stars for the room because we didnt think there was alot of thought that went into it. The hairdryer was bracketed to the wall nowhere near a mirror and you had to be a dwarf to use it, I had to sit on the floor to dry my hair and take the mirror off the wall. No obscured windows in the bathroom, we had to keep the the curtains drawn or risk exposure to the car park. Have to say the noisiest shower I have ever used, it felt like someone was mowing the lawn next to me. Having said all of that we did enjoy our weekend. Lovely meal in the restaurant.

Real gem if you want to relax and hide from everyday. Great staff, even better food, recommend you have the specials each day, great tastes. The river is a tranquil place. But you do have to love dogs, they are mostly good company. But there is always a yappy one!Thoroughly recommend.Noteworthy details: The walks by the river.

Stayed three nights on a Travelzoo deal and enjoyed every minute despite some very dodgy weather! What really makes this hotel is the fabulous staff, every single one of them went out of their way to make our stay as enjoyable as possible. The owners of the hotel should be proud of you! Rooms comfortable and clean , food very good, competitively priced and drinks at a price rarely seen in Devon and Never in Cornwall. The train ( Tarka Line) is an added bonus, yes it?s a walk along the main road, but only 5 mins to Eggesford station with trains going every hour to either Exeter or Barnstaple along the beautiful Taw Estuary. Bonus also to see local wine, cider and beer stocked, all of which are highly recommended!!

Very rude manager in accepting of business that passed through and there was no extension of communication through their social media and/or website about their private booking they had for the day. Very disappointed with overall situation

Comfy hotel with large grounds by the river . Dogs very welcomed and allowed the the bedrooms , breakfast room, bar and dining area plus all parts of the garden . 3 areas to the garden , the formal bit, the wooded bit and the meadow beside the river . There are several clean tidy bins dotted around for ? poo bags ? we had a superior double which we founds very spacious and comfortable. Breakfast was delicious, and we liked most of the dinners too. Dog water bowls with mat are provided in the dog friendly rooms. Loved it , and would definitely go back . Most people have dogs !

We went for afternoon tea on Tuesday to this country hotel. We had previously been (2 years ago) and had a lovely experience, again, with friends, where we shared afternoon tea. Unfortunately, the experience wasn't the same this time round. We found the sandwiches - all three of them to be very underwhelming. The scones were dry and the other 'cakes' were so tiny that we really could't even call them bite size. We were expecting a pleasurable experience but left feeling embarrassed, as we had recommended the place, and hungry! No staff came to ask if we were ok or if we required anything. Will not be visiting again I'm afraid.
