It saddens me to say but since they have changed to self serve coffee machines the quality of the coffee experience has significantly declined! Both our cappuccino and latte were lukewarm at best?.insipid with an unpleasant aftertaste. Big improvements needed on coffee quality?please return to coffee being made by a human. ??

I was waiting for an event at the Abbey so had lunch at the Grange. There was a good mix of hot food options, sweet things, crisps and drinks, and I opted for a cheese & onion pasty. While it did start to split open, it was on par with the ones I get back in Cornwall, with very tasty onions too.
I ate out on the terrace, which offers shelter from the sun and great views of the Abbey church and its grounds.

We had a caverey on Sunday 27 th July 2025. The food was outstanding and the staff were very helpful and professional. In fact over the years . On every occasion we have visited. I can honestly say I have never been disappointed with the food at Buckfast Abbey.

Very disappointed today...we haven't been since the new coffee machines have replaced staff.
The coffee was barely warm and very weak...we shan't return.
We then went to the other cafe...excellent, hot, strong coffee...we shall return!

Excellent Sunday Carvery with local produce - visited the abbey and decided to have a carvery lunch - the best carvery we have had - the lamb was local - the vegetables were cooked well with a good selection - the staff were friendly and helpful - at £15 it was good value.

Lovely restaurant, good food and the premises are amazing. Lovely afternoon out. Visit the grounds and restaurant . Highly recommended.

Went in the restaurant for lunch.
Food and drinks section needs changing. Take too long to make the drinks after you've already got the hot food and it's getting cold, time you sit down.
One of the saucers we were given with our tea was chipped, so we asked for another. The lady serving us, said nothing but gave us a scouring look and practically threw another saucer at us.
Food quality was average.
Love visiting the Abbey, which is beautiful but maybe next time, try an alternative venue for a cuppa and refreshments.

Excellent historical place with plenty of quality food products, wonderful views of the countryside. Very clean and tidy.

I should have remembered last year when we went here I had to ask for my coffee heating up. They serve it luke warm. I didn't ask this time as I think I upset someone hence scorching hot coffee. £5 for a sausage roll. Won't be back

A mega lovely roast!
Meat is all fresh and cooked to perfection. I wish it wasn't so much like a school canteen inside but outside is lovely.
Cauli cheese worth a try! So yummy.

Honestly I'm surprised this place doesn't have better reviews. My husband and I visited, along with our dog a few days ago and it was such a wonderful day out! The restaurant is big and well maintained! The outside space is partly covered and great for a sunny day. The staff is fantastic! So friendly and happy to help! Every single one of them greeted us with a smile. And the food was excellent!!! Real excellent! They have a salad and dessert bar and a variety of foods to choose from. The beef pot was to die for! I would generally recommend to visit the abbey, but I would absolutely suggest visiting the restaurant! And such a great value too!

Always a tranquil spot regardless of how busy the restaurant is- particularly out on the terrace with views of the Abbey. Have tried loads of different places locally for roast and have never found anywhere which compares to Bucky! Especially for the price. Staff always friendly and happy to help. Good selection of gluten free options- including cakes :)
