Lovely experience all round. Even though we?d only booked lunch (small plates only), which we had to bring forward due to the weather & tides, the hotel still arranged a pick up across the peninsula. Obviously Burgh Island Hotel is an art deco lover?s delight - better than expected in fact, but we were welcomed like full paying guests, with excellent service throughout and delicious cocktails to boot. Literally an experience to remember. And the ?small plates? are not small so you basically get a full lunch. Our trip was a test and it passed with flying colours - so we?ll be staying next time!!

Amazing decor and scenery. Had a fabulous 3 course meal with friends. Canapés in the cocktail bar first and finished with coffee and petit fours. All dishes were really lovely and so nicely presented

We went for a ?Tea? costing £55 each and dressed accordingly as requested. We were shown to our table by an attractive young lady in what appeared to be tight jeans . The table was set with a plain white cloth and white crockery which can be found everywhere. The table was not large enough to take individual teapots for the various teas offered. The scones were put on the window seat. The table was set with a knife and fork. Not a cake fork! The equivalent of one round of cheap finger sandwiches, one cucumber, one egg, one ham one Salmon. Cakes, one was a chocolate profiterole. We were given one small plate for everything, this is not good enough. This was not what I expected for a special Art Deco Tea costing £55.

This hotel is special, with an amazing location and great facilities. Whether it is the fantastic rooms with a view, wonderful food and great service, or crossing to the island by sea tractor when the tide is in, it is a must visit place. And for Art Deco fans, you are in for a treat.

An amazing place to stay, we were in the Artist's Studio with our whippet Huxley and the staff were fantastic, they could not do enough for us, such wonderful service! The food, room, atmosphere, everthing was perfect.

From the point of booking the reception staff have kept in contact up to the time of arrival. This gave great comfort knowing they really cared about the customer. On arrival I was met by the chauffeur who labelled our luggage and the next time I saw this was when we were shown to our room. Absolutely spot on service. The staff were at the door ready to greet us and settle us in the conservatory with a welcome glass of quality champagne. No rush to check in. Totally relaxed. During our stay the bar Staff in particular J was outstanding along with all the other members they would got that one step further to ensure your stay would be a good one. The chamber maids were brilliant they were like invisible but doing a great job. The food was faultless. I would recommend this hotel without a doubt. Well done to the chief too! The food presentation was Michelin Star quality plus.

Have had a lovely break away at Burgh Island Hotel. Read the reviews as you are paying a LOT of money... however, for me (being an Ex - English Tourist Board Inspector in the past) the atmosphere and the STAFF/values were excellent. There are a few areas that need a little more focus on, and I think a majority of the Hotels problems at the moment are centred around the lack of staff, like many other hotels around the country. However the staff they have from House keeping to Managers are truly friendly, caring and have had excellent training. My husband and I loved the food, enjoyed a few cocktails, swam in the Mermaid pool, enjoyed talking to and making new friends, played billiards till late, and walked around the island and snoozed on the sunloungers. From the moment we were greeted by the Landrovers, to the handshakes to say cheerio, we had a wonderful time. Its is pricey, HOWEVER... there is NOWHERE else quite like Burgh Island.

Location, ambiance and outstanding service made our visit a very special and memorable occasion. Everthing was arranged to make our visit go smoothly from detailed information in advance of our arrival to friendly assistance with parking and travel to the island, a personal and attentive welcome and a very memorable formal dinner in the Grand Ballroom.

The hotel made an anniversary even more special with the extra little touches they provided, champagne on our arrival. Staff were all very friendly and helpful nothing seemed to much trouble. The black tie evening was very enjoyable.

Had an amazing time at the Burgh Island Hotel. It was a great experience all round. The staff were wonderful. It was a real treat to take in the surroundings whilst drinking delicious cocktails. The room we stayed in was stunning and the balcony a lovely surprise..

My wife had wanted to stay here for some time so I took her there as a surprise on her birthday. Parking was on a secure sight on the mainland and we were transported to the hotel in a Discovery (since the tide was out). On arrival we were given a glass of champagne. Since we were early we had a chance to explore the island. The views were magnificent - so much so that we walked around the island several times during our stay. Upon retuning to the hotel we found that our luggage had been taken to our suite where we found a half bottle of champagne waiting for us - a very nice touch. The suite was spacious with period furniture and fittings (as was the hotel's public areas). The view through the windows was great. However there were restrictions on the opening of the iron framed windows. The springs in the settee were showing their age which made sitting slightly uncomfortable. However these small point did not detract from our stay as they added to the authentic atmosphere. The public areas and grounds were tastefully done. The Mermaid pool was something different and provided a sheltered place for those wanting a sea swim. We ate in both the Ball Room and Nettlefold restaurants and enjoyed both meals. Breakfast was fine, but on the first day we seemed to have been forgotten about and had to remind the waitress that she hadn't take our order. The wife had a massage in the spa. She said that it wasn't the best she had had but was "fine". We popped in to the Pilchard Inn a couple of times. It is very small but has a lot of character. The choice of drinks are limited but adequate. It was interesting to see most of the customers leave quickly when the bell was rung to indicate that the incoming tide would shortly cut off the island. A must is to travel on the unique sea tractor. It is free for hotel guests but others have to pay £2. There are a large number of staff for the number of guests at the hotel (some of whom were clearly in training). Service was leisurely but, we thought, in keeping with the overall atmosphere of the hotel. Vlad and all of the staff were friendly, informative and, with the 1 minor exception, attentive and efficient.

Just so special, quite literally transported to the era of special service. The staff were amazing from the singing housekeeper and immaculate period rooms, to Nathan, Jamie, Connor and Martina the witty staff so quick to adapt, to Vlad & Simon who instantly made us feel at home. A holiday made into a once in a life time experience and memories of laughter to keep.

This was our second trip to Burgh Island. The hotel itself is an art deco gem with many original fixtures and fittings. It is set in a beautiful location and has a private natural seawater pool. We stayed in a grand suite which was lovely and comfortable and had some beautiful period furniture. It also had some lovely touches such as the high quality coffee/tea maker. It was scrupulously clean. The only thing that let it down was the somewhat worn bedding. The public areas are lovely, however we did have problems with the service in the bar, we were ignored on the first night and had to call the staff over to get drinks and a menu. Even then we had a long wait. The menu in the Nettlefold was not as good as the previous year and the food was a little dissapointing. Having said that, when we mentioned our issues re the service to Simon he was amazing, and the service improved markedly the next couple of nights. The food in the ballroom is much better, though they do need to improve the deserts. The breakfasts are good. We did try the spa and had a wonderful massage - highly recommended. All in all this is stil a lovely place to visit.

We ate breakfast in the restaurant and can honestly say it was outstanding. The food was delicious and the standard of presentation and service was second to none. Dinner in the evening was amazing fine dining prepared by wonderful chefs who really know how to please their guests. A beautiful experience

Absolutely first class - the highlight being a local lobster. The tables are nicely spaced and a size that means you are not squashed in... all very nice
