The service was ok given a Friday night and a couple of large groups in.
I thought the food was on the expensive side, which is forgiveable if the food was great. However, it was mediocre at best, pretentious at worst.
My dish of spinach and mushroom tagliatelle had plenty of wild mushrooms to its merit, but the spinach was just a daydream. The sauce tasted of cream and a memory of tarragon, and the pasta was overcooked and formed a stodgy mound on the fork. This should have been a dish easy to get right.
A side of foccaccia was equally a let down, meagre portions of disappointing bread for £5, although the sauce verde was the most flavourful aspect of the meal. I assume the based on the overall reviews that this was an off night for Le Mistral, but we wouldn't return for a second helping.

Food is very poor. Not what is expected from a French style restaurant. Over cooked and roasts very dry and hard. Our family won't be eating there again after 3 awful meals

A nice atmosphere, decent service and pleasant surroundings, let down a bit by the food. The starters were so so, the Gruyère soufflé was ok but the French onion soup was not the classic rich stock and uber cheesy topped dish we were expecting. The lamb and the pork belly main courses were ok but the bouillabaisse was very disappointing. The portion was huge but it was just tons of potatoes, carrots and tomato stock, the soup tasted like it had zero fish stock and overall it was more like a vegetarian goulash with some seafood dropped on top. The wine selection was nice and decently priced. The deserts were also ok. One of my dinning companions couldn't eat nuts and at the start of the meal when we enquired whether the pate starter contained nuts the waitress went to check and came back with the answer that "the packet says it may contain trace amounts of nuts". The same response was received when we enquired about another of the starters. Pate from a packet in a French restaurant? It's so easy to make. All in all it was an ok meal but I wouldn't think of returning. It's a shame the food didn't match the surroundings or the service.

Delicious French style food. Service was excellent. Really loved this little bistro. If lived locally would be a regular. ????

We have family living in Wirksworth, and often eat here when we visit. The entire experience is, and always has been, very relaxing, the food is excellent, and it's one of my favourite places to eat. They even exceed expectations for lighter bites, so no need to wait until you're hungry. Happy 15th birthday, by the way....

Cute little independent bistro with a nice, intimate feel and a good range of wines. Vegan options were good on the menu, however unfortunately they were out of Parmesan and we still had the linguine, which was disappointing to say the least. The focaccia starter also didn?t blow us away. . We did let them know and they were happy to make it up to us, which was nice of them.

Had a birthday lunch here today. Have wanted to go for a long time. Sadly myself and my husband were disappointed. We both had fishcakes with chips and were expecting home made fishcakes. The fishcakes looked like they were straight out of a packet and the chips were like McDonald?s fries but not as good! My husbands side salad was dry limp leaves with no dressing or decent presentation. We also had to wait quite a while for the meals to arrive. For the cost it was very poor.

My wife and I had two unforgettable dinners at Le Mistral in Wirksworth during our recent holiday in England. What a lovely restaurant! We felt welcome from the moment we stepped inside and till we (reluctantly) left. The interior (we were dining in the cellar downstairs), the service, the wines, the food - incredible! FRENCH ONION SOUP, BOEUF BOURGUIGNON, CONFIT DUCK, PAN-FRIED HADDOCK, ROSEMARY & MINT LAMB TENDERLOIN are the dishes we had, and each was superb: the balance and the subtlety of flavors, the textures - perfection. Dear Rob and Tamzin, you are both gifted, and kind. The waiting staff is professional, warm and accommodating. Thank you all for making these two evenings so special for us!
