Staff very rude, you couldn't order anything off of the lunch menu. They gave no reason why they wouldn't serve it. Portions very small for the price. Very disappointed.

Disappointing. Only half the menu is available, the food is served on a cardboard tray with disposable cutlery. My daughters chicken nuggets were the cheapest processed chicken and my ?pasty? was only partially cooked. A pity because a great location but definitely won?t return

Disappointing experience.
I don?t normally leave negative reviews, but I felt compelled to after visiting recently. I asked if they could just serve fish fingers for my baby (without the cob). I was told I?d have to pay full price for the fish finger cob even if I didn?t want the cob. Fine, I can accept this though I think it could have been more flexible. I was having a chip cob so I asked maybe they could have just charged me for chips and a fish finger cob but then put the chips on the cob, rather than the fish fingers. They didn?t seem to want to help so I left it.
It was a nice, sunny day so I asked about sitting outside with a high chair, and was told I couldn?t because it ?wasn?t safe? - despite the outside area being completely flat. And I?d be making that choice to take the high chair outside. So then I sat inside with baby because she needed feeding.
The staff member I spoke to was unhelpful, with no willingness to accommodate reasonable requests for a young child. This is the first time I?ve experienced this because usually places are very accommodating.
It?s a shame because this is an amazing park, and the café should reflect that. It really feels like it needs a change of hands or management to bring it up to standard.

Terrible staff. Young arrogant girl swearing behind the counter. Generally bad attitude. Same scoop used for normal and vegan ice cream. Not acceptable

Extremely slow service ( only 1 table of 3 in !) rude staff that don?t want to help and then argue when they do! Over priced menu for what you get. Will never return!

We love coming here with our dogs. Such good value and we are rarely left waiting long for our food. The food is always good and the staff are all great. Stan and Charlie always enjoy their dog sausages and the staff always make sure there are biscuits for them. There are always many returning customers in this popular cafe.

Visited today with a friend and her grandson. Service was slow I felt like they ignored me the same with my friend. I ordered a fish finger cob. My friend had chips, and ordered a child's meal. The way it was advertised we were expecting a meal in a box, but it arrived in a tray. Food was unappealing the fish fingers were the cheapest you could buy, the chips, if you could call them that were inedible. None of us ate any of it, though the dog had a fish finger. The coffee wasn't great. When the weather is good the park is busy, get your act together.

Service miserable , on the board the closing times is still 15:30 ,the lady on the till didn?t inform us that they shut at 15:00 in fact she served us the coffee on a take out cup but she said we can?t sit in cause the shop is closed (then why you serving me coffee) and it was a freezing day to stay out so if we knew it from the start that cafe is shutting at 15:00 we would choose another coffee shop around .

Just about to leave a negative review after the shocking experience today, and looked at all the others! Something obviously isn?t right with this place, such a shame, huge beautiful park to visit and such a rude man running a cafe Saturday?
Confusion regarding queue and he shouted at myself and my family telling us to queue outside the door!
Why don?t you organise a queuing system mate! And IN / OUT DOORS, to save confusion and custom, as we enjoyed ours elsewhere!!

As a vegan it is lovely to have some tasty vegan cake options at this cafe as I often visit Markeaton Park to go for a run. However the savoury options are very poor and, more disappointingly, the staff are unfriendly and sometimes downright rude. On one visit I ordered the vegan burger which was literally a dry processed vegan burger on a bun with a few shreds of lettuce. The slightly odd man serving actually said to me ?that looks disgusting? as he gave me my burger! The last time I went in, the lady serving was cleaning a fridge and although I coughed politely to let her know I was there she continued cleaning. I said ?hello? in a friendly manner and was told to ?hang on a minute? in a very brusque manner. She continued to clean for another minute before begrudgingly serving me in an annoyed manner. She seemed irritated that I wanted to buy a slice of cake. The place was practically empty, which, considering my experiences is hardly surprising.

Went here for some food while at the park but they hardly had anything that was on the menu and it was only 12:30 I couldn't believe that they had sold out of most things so early in the day also they said that they didn't do something that was on the menu. If you don't do it take it off of the menu.

Sunday morning in October, thought I?d sit n have a good black coffee - but disappointed , hardly any taste, poss they added too much water, but it just tasted like a hot black water, pretty much!
Nice view, quite peaceful but they could do with more outside tables to cater for the footfall- and possibly provide towels to wipe the wet seating to allow to dry off quicker (sun is nice n warm but not in the shade this time of year).
