We went for a late lunch at the end of a hike and were so impressed, the staff were lovely and welcoming and the food was delicious. Nearly all the menu is gluten free or has gluten free alternatives which was amazing. They also catered for dairy free. We will definitely be going back. The new owners are doing a good job with this lovely old pub.
Dietary restrictions: Excellent gluten free and dairy free options.

Decided to walk here from neighbouring Carsington during a recent long weekend away.Well worth the walk- stunning views en route, and a very warm welcome on arrival.High quality pub grub and an acceptable selection of wines. If you're in the vicinity and want some high quality, good value pub grub in a proper hostelry, this is the place.

Lazy Sunday stop for lunch. Didn't want a full Sunday lunch (but it did look good),but they were happy to serve us with starters or anything from the specials board.Quirky surroundings, friendly and helpful staff, good food and good cask ales.

This was our first pub visit of the day on our way around the Peak District. What a great little old pub, very oldy worldy & the food we both had was superb. I had a beef & Stilton baguette with chips with beef dripping gravy & the Mrs had very posh looking fish finger & tartar sauce baguette with chips, very tasty....will be back to sample more one day.

Need a cosy, comfy and welcoming pub with a roaring coal fires and a warm welcome? Our group of seven were seeking classic pub food and interesting vegan options - and we found it! We would recommend both the aubergine curry and the steak pie - and how often can you say that??? Staff were fantastic, too!

We were lucky enough to stay next door to the Gate, visiting for the second time. It's a lovely little pub, good food, open fire and friendly people. Just remember to book a table for food, as it fills up quickly due to its popularity. Thank you to Tony for sharing his father's military flying history.
