OMG Alex Polizzi is definitely needed here .... NOW !!!! Just back from our stay (25.3.2024)Booked for my husband's birthday pressie (along with 8 friends (4 couples). Extremely disappointed with our accommodation.STAFF LOVELY/ GOOD FOOD... very tasty. Plus....Saturday night singer /guitar entertainment bonus too ..HOWEVERThe rooms OMG..... worst ever stayed in......Our room "Revelin" was nothing like the photo advertised on The Ole Nags Head webside.... False advertising at its best.. This needs to be amended to tell the truth ....Photo of our room "Revelin" looks lovely on website.. 4 Poster Bed / Drapes.. until you actually walk into it.....suddenly you are faced with an extremely small room with a very very basic cream (wobbly) bedstead with lime wallpaper behind not to mention the damp patches on ceiling near door ... NOT the Grand Bedroom advertised. We double checked the website to see if we had been given the incorrect room - as what we had - was not (or so we thought) shown on Ole Nags Head's website. All 9 rooms have grand photos ours was not grand????We clicked on all photo's to all the rooms to reveal more details.. We simply could not believe the photo revealed when we got to Revelin ...the shock picture now actually had a photo of the the very very basic cream wobbly bedstead.. NOT the 4 Poster as per advert. So disappointed. The bathroom was so tiny..if you are bigger than a size 12/ 14 you just won't fit in the shower. The bathroom door had No Lock or even a catch to shut the door....it just doesn't shut. The floor has not been cleaned properly (for sometime)... behind toilet dust/hairs also in corners just outside shower. Carpets not hoovered well either throughout bedroom/hotel.Also......The noise is horrendous in this room as next to the upstairs restaurant and as at the top of the stairs just above bar too... we went to bed late but very noisy into early a.m." Revilin" has metal frame wet moulding windows out to the front/road.... just above the entrance to hotel so lots of noice from smokers chatting outside which is fair enough but please note it is an extremely noisy room. (We did ask to be moved but fully booked). We never ever complain normally........but this simply has to be pointed out to others looking to book. Our friends had similar problems in their rooms portable heater in room as sooooooo cold. Their bed was also substituted for metal frame bed not as advertised 4 Poster. They had No complimentary shampoo/shower gel water ect. ( others all had these) House keeping is Very slap dash/non existent.Other friends had the 2 single bedroom.... Thick dust on the ornate wooden pointed headboards you could write your name in it.The owner we understand is aware but not interested which must make the lovely staff extremely frustrated and disheartened at the constant unsatisfactory customers and constant apologies they have to keep making.Clearly understaffed too.Such a shame..... please listen to your staff ...fgs....

Echoing the comments of Johnny Q from 9+ years ago: Ye Olde Nags Head has a specialty in sausage & mash: 5 types of sausage, 4 types of mashed potatoes, 4 different sauces. Plus the option of a giant "bin lid" Yorkshire pudding for £1.50. It was stupendous, and the brownie with caramel sauce dessert afterwards was nearly as good. The rest of my family had Sunday Roast, which was also superb. Service was friendly and timely, and helpful with our questions. Ambiance varies at the Nag's Head from room to room; in the nearly-empty breakfast dining room in the corner of the building, it was a bit forlorn. Busier rooms near the heart of the action seemed cozier.

Food was ok but not what it used to be. The once lovely thin pan pizza is now mediocre, the £15 cheese board consisted of a couple of bits of cheddar (same type for both bits) and some goats cheese which was not great, this was disappointing so complained, to be fair we got a refund for this without argument. The staff are lovely though and service is good.Get the food back to scratch and we'll be back!

Recently visited with friends (16th Mar) as we love Castleton. All the other pubs in the area were fantastic; very welcoming, good service etc. Unfortunately the same cannot be said for the Old Nags Head. The bar staff looked like they didn?t want to be there, very slow, miserable service, even slower at pouring the drinks. Half our party had finished theirs by the time the others were poured. Didn?t bother staying and moved on to somewhere much more happier (and cheaper!)

Nice welcoming pub in the heart of Castleton with good real ales and top fish n' chips.

Very strange staff, I went in today and walked past this over weight female staff member I tried to squeeze past and she had the cheek to give me a dirty look, I was simply trying to get past to the bar area.Inside interior looked dirty and outdated, in the end I ended up visiting a very nice bar round the corner.

Staff were really friendly and the room was clean and comfortable. Food was delicious, and there is a fantastic range of local beers on too.Food & drinks: Excellent food with a really good range on the specials board too. I had swordfish with a tomato and caper sauce- it was incredible. Breakfast was delicious too. The bar has a brilliant range of local ales, and they also do a taster tray of 3 3rds pints to try. There are lots of different areas with seating to choose from.

We popped in for breakfast it was cold and seemed like it had been sitting in a baines mare for quite a long time as it wasn't the best of food when it arrived also the mushrooms were still raw.On a positive note, this is in a great location, and the staff were very friendly

I called 2 days ago to book a table after my walk and was told I did not need to book. I asked again and was reassured I did really did not need to book. So I turned up today. At the door I was rudely and bluntly turned away. Which was in stark contrast to the phone call I had made 2 days earlier.I won't return as the rebuff I received was terrible.
