Sadly we did not have the best experience at this pub, and after reading the previous reviews, we had such high hopes. Booked weeks in advance a table of 8 for my daughter's 21st birthday, we were made to come half an hour earlier when I called at lunchtime to add a person, due to the kitchen being so busy. I asked if we could come later instead but were told there were too many other bookings. However, we were the largest party in the pub by a long way, and since my daughter's friends are all students, they mostly ordered starters and sides anyway. The service felt rushed and one of the waiting staff looked distinctly unfriendly and kept coming along and staring at us, then leaving again without saying a word. With it being such a special occasion, it was overall disappointing. Perhaps they are more accommodating for locals. The food was very nice and my daughter did get a free dessert which she thoroughly enjoyed. Unfortunately it isn't all about the food though.

Popped in to this pub on the way back for a walk.. reasonable pricing - pint of Hawkstone, cider and pint of coke was £15
Decided to have starters each which we decided upon the lemon hummous and halloumi sticks both at £6.50.
Both unfortunately not with this price at all. The halloumi sticks were small and only 5 on the plate and the hummus was quite dry and barely a hint of lemon. Because of the pricing we felt compelled to eat- absolutely no pint in sending it back to be redone as not much could have been done so a touch of mustard with the hummus did the trick. The salsa stuff with the halloumi was really lovely though.
Mains we had the fish and chips and the gammon and chunky chips. Both unfortunately pretty average food. The egg on the gammon was over cooked, but the gammon itself was lovely. The chips unfortunately were what you get in a chip shop so not my cup of tea but the portion size is really good.
Fish and chips was okay. The mushy peas took over the plate but overall okay.
It?s a lovely pub with friendly staff so although we didn?t entirely feel satisfied with our food, it wouldnt stop us returning and trying something else off the menu at all.

We had our sons 18th birthday party at the Anglers tonight. We had exclusive use of the tea rooms but could go in and out of the pub area too. Claire, Tom and all the staff were fabulous. So friendly and attentive. The food was delicious. Tom made a menu just for us. Then there was the added bonus of a disco and karaoke in the pub. Thank you so much for a brilliant night.

Six of us enjoyed fabulous food at The Anglers Rest last night. I had sea bass and shrimp tagliatelle with a crab sauce, which was divine. There was loads of fish in it, which was just as well, as everyone wanted to try it!
Two people very much enjoyed their homemade steak and ale pie, and the rest had chicken wrapped in bacon, with a Harrington Stilton sauce, which was scrummy. Great selection of drinks. Friendly, helpful staff. Highly recommend!

Great local real ales from Eyam Brewery & Intrepid, with top notch food. Enjoyed a fantastic fishcake starter in delicious fennel sauce, and a succulent bacon wrapped chicken breast with stilton.
