Bloody lovely pub for a Sunday lunch. Really good food, excellent portions and brilliant service. If you're in the area, just go.

My first and probably only exsperiance here which is a shame because its a place we pass quiet frequently. The price was reasonable around £20/main. However i had the steak and stilton pie and my partner had a Sunday dinner with a extra side (£4.50) of mash potatoes. First bit of the green and I was treated with a mouth full of salt which was incredibly unpleasant. The meat in my pie was chewy and had no Stilton in (had my partner taste it who is repulsed by blue cheese and he confirmed he couldnt taste it either) told the waiter and I was basically laughed at. My partner mash potato was also incredibly salty and I couldn't eat any of it. He enjoyed the remained of his beef sunday dinner. A shame really as the food looked amazing just really missed the mark.

The Peacock at Owler Bar is one of those rare places where everything simply comes together perfectly ? from the warm welcome to the final bite of food. From the moment my dad and I walked in, we were struck by the inviting atmosphere. The interior is beautifully designed, with a balance of modern comfort and classic character. The old wooden beams and frames give the restaurant a timeless feel, while the décor and lighting create a warm, relaxed environment that makes you instantly settle in.
Service throughout our visit was outstanding ? attentive without being intrusive. Staff clearly takes pride in what they do, and it shows in the small details. Plates arrived hot (a simple touch but often overlooked), the cutlery and diner set were elegant, and everything felt thoughtfully presented.
For our meal, we opted for the 10oz sirloin steaks, and they did not disappoint. Each steak was cooked exactly as requested, tender and full of flavour. The triple-cooked chips were crisp on the outside and fluffy inside, while the grilled Portobello mushroom with smoked paprika rarebit added a unique twist that elevated the dish. The roasted vine tomato was the perfect fresh balance alongside the richness of the meat.
Overall, The Peacock delivers phenomenal food, top-notch service, and an ambience that makes you want to linger. It?s clear why it?s a favourite ? a restaurant where both quality and care shine through in every detail.
Big thank you to Anya for great service.

Lovely traditional Inn with plenty of history, wooden beams and original wood floors. The owners have been sympathetic to the old building. Loved to see the old black and white pictures of the pub on the walls. (I visited because some ancestral Broughams ran the Inn at the end of the 19th century and start of 20th). It has a great feel and is in a lovely location on the gateway to the Peak District. Good friendly service. I had main of pan fried sea bass with leeks and peas - which was absolutely lovely. It was delicate with great flavours; sea bass was cooked to perfection. Washed down with a lovely coffee. I went on a quiet Monday evening but there were still a good few customers enjoying the food and setting. Owners have done a good job. I definitely recommend.

Update; Second visit today. Fabulous! Tandoori Monkfish is an absolute delight. Slight issue with a steak which was resolved brilliantly. Bakewell tart, Chocolate Brownie & Dark chocolate mousse were all superb. Service was fantastic, each and every one of the staff waiting on our table were absolutely charming. Love this place.
First visit after the new guys have taken over and given the old place a makeover. We were not disappointed. We were greeted with a lovely smile from a young man (I didn't get his name but he was definitely an assett to the venue) he told us a little bit about the revamp and the picture that hangs in every one of their venues. I'll leave that for you to discover. Service was everything you would want it to be. The food was lovely and very well presented. And joy of joys, linen napkins, sometimes it's the small things. There was a little wait but it was busy. Very impressed. We shall definitely be back. I love the history of this place too, Grade II listed and built over 200 years ago in 1818 as a coaching inn, you can feel the history and imagine the coaches coming across the turnpike in the middle of winter. I would think the coaching inn was very busy then too. The revamp is sympathetic to that and has retained the charm.

Not been for 25 years, on arrival my wife and I were greeted by a gentleman dressed smartly all in black, I believe his name may have been David?
We were shown to our table and in time ordered a bottle of rose wine, steak stir fry and prawn stir fry not something we would normally order but was very flavoursome.
We followed this with Bakewell tart and finally latte coffees.
The whole experience was excellent, the food, the ambient surroundings, the decor and the customer focused gentleman's interaction was impeccable.
He was able to interact with us in a friendly and professional manner.
I would have no problem recommending this establishment.
Furthermore I like it when I receive a response as it embellishes my desire to return, thank you.

My husband and I went out for a rare meal together at the Peacock, a place we used to enjoy. However, our experience today was nothing like it used to be. The restaurant was empty (we arrived just before 12) and yet it took 45 minutes for our food to arrive. To make matters worse, the chicken pie I ordered was cold.
The waitress apologised and offered to replace it with a 30% discount, which seemed reasonable. But when the plate returned about 20 minutes later, my husband had already finished his meal, which was disappointing because this was our first meal out alone for quite some time. The first pie had been reheated, and the mashed potatoes on top smoothed back over it. The chips had been reheated and inedible; I snapped one to show the waitress the empty inside!
I was embarrassed to refuse to eat the food, but it was awful, and I was concerned about getting sick. By this point, I had already eaten some of cold chicken and didn?t want to risk more of this food.
Despite the waitress?s apology and the refund, I ended up leaving without eating a main meal because we were unable to stay any longer. They did give me a brownie as a gesture of goodwill, but it?s certainly not worth the £10 charged for it! We definitely will not be returning.

Over priced, steak over done.
No atmosphere.
Staff looked miserable.
