Save yourself a headache and avoid this place ? especially if you?re travelling by bicycle. Despite messaging ahead to confirm, I was told on arrival that bikes aren?t allowed in the room. The receptionist I spoke to was condescending and unhelpful, with an attitude that made the whole experience worse. After waiting in the lobby for over 30 minutes just to be dismissed like an inconvenience, I decided to cancel and walked out.
Thankfully, the nearby Premier Inn was a breath of fresh air ? friendly staff, no issue with bikes in the room, and a much better overall experience.
If you?re a cyclist or just someone who values decent customer service, steer clear of the Palace Hotel.
If my bike can?t stay, neither can I. Bikes are like luggage?only more valuable. No bike, no booking. Smart hotels welcome cyclists.

During my stay at The Palace Hotel Buxton & Spa, I was immediately struck by its grand Victorian architecture and sense of history. Walking into the lobby felt like stepping back in time, with its high ceilings, chandeliers, and elegant décor. The location was perfect?just a short walk from Buxton?s Pavilion Gardens and the Opera House, making it easy to explore the town.
One of the highlights was relaxing in the hotel?s leisure facilities after a day of sightseeing. The pool and sauna were a great way to unwind, and the staff were friendly and accommodating. My room, while spacious, did feel a little dated, and the furniture could use some updating. However, the bed was comfortable, and I had a peaceful night?s sleep.
Breakfast in the morning was enjoyable, with a good selection of hot and cold options, and the dining area had a lovely old-world charm. While there were a few small inconveniences, like extra charges for parking and Wi-Fi, the overall experience was positive. The hotel?s character, history, and unbeatable location made it a memorable stay.
Nearby activities: Walks and stunning caves
Safety: Incredibly safe my son injured himself and was rushed off to be treated in the hotel by increasingly kind members of staff

Could do with a few quid spending on it. Adequate but nothing more.

Beautiful old hotel with a great location. Room was a bit basic & needed a refresh.

The place has a magnificent ancient look and feel. The entrance is superb. It is located in the central part of Buxton, so it is convenient. However, the rooms are old, poor cleaning, and had hairs in my room from previous guests. Told the staff and they promised they would send a team, but that never happened. The place would do with some renovation - it is tired. Carpets have two colours, rooms may smell of smoke, beds are old, room interiors are horrible. Towels were stained and I ended up using my own.
Rooms: Rooms are old and would do with renovation.
Nearby activities: The Peak District trekking trails. Roman Baths in Buxton
Safety: I felt safe
Walkability: It is Central in Buxton Town

I came here last month for a break away hiking with my dog.
Unfortunately they got my mixed up on arrival but the receptionist immediately resolved this and gave me a really nice room.
I stayed for 2 nights. I was sad that dogs weren't allowed in the bar area as I came alone and would have like to have had the company.
The bonus was that I could have my breakfast in the orangery (which is really pretty) in the morning with the dog.
The staff were really friendly and a young girl behind the bar on the Thursday night was really helpful regarding things to do around Buxton.
It's situated in a really good place.
Rooms were clean. The bed was heavenly! I slept like a baby especially after all the hiking I had done.
I cannot wait to come back with my four legged friend ? it was just perfect for what I wanted ! Sadly didn't get time to use the spa/leisure but I 100% intend on doing so next time!

Great location, public areas of hotel once were very impressive and still give off an air off what it could be, however the bedrooms were disappointing.
Having asked to be moved from a double room due to it being 2 squeaky singles pushed together, we were rewarded with a much smaller room with the smallest double bed and windows that were painted shut.
Very disappointed ?

All a bit tired, the first room the lady at the desk sorted us out( was a very slow process, silently tapping away at her screen amost unaware we were still in the room) was not a double, it was 2 squeaky singles pushed together, with a ridge in the middle, not even zipped together. Asked for a double, got changed to the world's smallest double bed in a tiny room was too disenchanted to complain again, did not eat here but was really central and an easy if hilly, walk to town.
Rooms: Too hot, too small
Nearby activities: Centre of town really easy acess

Hotel staff were lovely, service was fab food was delicious couldn't fault them.
Leisure staff was very abrupt and clearly didn't want to be there.
As for the hotel, extremely run down in desperate need of some TLC, holes in walls and floor in the spa changing rooms, pool needs a good clean, corridors look like they haven't been hoovered in a long time, dust on curtains and cobwebs on the ceiling in room. Room was small and basic, a travel lodge or premier inn would have been cleaner and much bigger. Got a room with a view of a broken roof and some bins, not great considering the beautiful location the hotel is in.
The location was great for our needs however won't be in a rush to go back due to how rundown and unclean the hotel is.
Rooms: Room was very small, bathroom was also small, outdated dust and cobwebs all around. Hair in the bathtub
Food and drinks: Food was nice, we had afternoon tea, evening dinner and breakfast

Took 20 mins to book in. There was an event in the hotel so gave the benefit of the doubt. When to restaurant, fully booked. 10munutes later watched the waiter tell someone they would squeeze them in. OK! Ordered bar food after being told it was available from 8pm. 40 minutes later went to check on food only to be told we wouldn't be getting it as they were rushed off their feet!!!!! Do not visit this hotel.

Even as a guest they still try charge you to use the gym and other facilities. The gym is tiny and not worth 2 pound never mind 6. I go to a full size real gym back home and pay 3 pound a day 10 a week. What a joke when I work away 5 days a week pay a fortune to sleep somewhere for the night and can't even train for free..
