Fawlty Towers move over.Monsal Head hotel has potential but it is rundown, over-priced for what you get and it feels like it is stuck in the 70s. We were expecting Basil Fawlty to walk through the door anytime. The place is single glazed so it was cold and you can hear every car/lorry thunder by. The breakfast room was again cold with stained carpets and everything feels outdated. On a positive note, the staff was friendly and the bathroom was mostly clean.I will not go there again under the current management and discovered that the nearby Ashford arms with its excellent kitchen would have been a much better place to stay

Me and my family stopped at the pub during a walk in the area. Muddy boots were welcomed and the staff were very friendly, great at making conversation and very authentic. The atmosphere was lovely, nice and warm on a winters day with lots of well behaved dogs in the pub. The staff were very attentive, bringing dog biscuits and checking on everyone. We had a few bites to eat and they were good quality, limited menu but very allergen aware and my daughter thoroughly enjoyed their Cheesy garlic bread. My husband had a fish finger sandwich and although the fish fingers were probably catering bought he said the tartar sauce and bread was lovely and it was all served with a big side salad. My daughter had a brownie with pistachio icecream and it looked awesome, they even offered her extra icecream. Really clean toilets. Great pub and we will make a point of going back - thank you

I took my friend to Monsal Head on what would have been her late husband 60th.It'll be fun she said....It'll be beautiful she said....Bring your camera, there might be a nice sunset to snap she said...It was 4°C and precipitating it down! After we looked at the scenery we quickly retired to the car. After ten minutes watching the windscreen wipers I said "you do realise that there's a pub behind us?"We weren't disappointed, we sat in a comfortable room, with lovely staff, drank low fat cola and rosé wine respectability. For lunch I had chips, onion rings and garlic bread, which was more than I could eat and absolutely delicious. In spite of the weather we had a really nice time.

Good little country hotel with great views. Fairly pricey for the standard and the time of year (Nov) though.

We popped in here on our first family walk in the Peak District. The food was home cooked and so warming. The staff and owner were so incredibly welcoming and helpful, we will definitely come again.

Went for dinner on a Monday for an evening meal with family. Menu was limited and food was well presented, Vegetarian food seemed like a microwave meal and burgers were very greasy . Daughter was very I?ll and I felt unwell.I hope things can be changed but be warned.Food & drinks: Food and atmosphere needs to be addressed.

Lovely food. Stopped here having been to the farmers market. Dog friendly. Dogs even have their own menu and dogs snack available to buy. Young guy behind the bar could do with a lesson or two in customer service.

Great historical old coaching hotel on the old toll road to Manchester with delicious food, excellent ales, and brilliant staff. A great starting or finishing spot for local walks or fishing the wild rainbow trout on the Wye just down in the valley. Stunning views all around!
