I can't rate The Cow highly enough. The food was delicious, we had a three course meal, catch of the day was just beautiful and apparently the lamb was delicious also. Brilliant service and wonderful space. Thank you

We visited a few weeks ago.. we have been before and it was good. This time it was a really hot day we fancied fish and wine..
it was the worst salad I?ve ever had out.. dull and no flavour plus if your going to radicchio lettuce it should be said on the menu as it is not generally liked.. it was like someone just emptied the end of a mixed bag into the bowl then threw a few cherry tomato in then 5 prawns .. just so boring and absolutely ripped off on price.. the wine was no where near cold enough either .. shame as we go to the bluebell all the time and it?s great

We stayed here one night on the way home from London, to celebrate our 2 year wedding anniversary. Great first impressions, lovely bar area! We were shown to our room and everything was lovely, clean and cosy. Really gorgeous bathroom, big bath and luxurious products. Bathrobes were a nice touch. We enjoyed a bottle of Prosecco in our room before heading to dinner. Really good food, staff were all fantastic and I couldn?t really fault a thing. Thanks for a wonderful nights stay!

Lovely pub and restaurant. We've not stayed, but eaten breakfast and evening meal here. Food is very well presented and lovely. The breakfast is great. The little village is super peaceful and staff are really friendly and helpful.

Food was very nice but not a place for those with a big appetite. If I had not ordered a side portion of chips with my main I would definitely have stopped for food on the way home. A bit on the expensive side too

My wife and I stayed just one night at this lovely country pub/hotel. Although only a few miles from Derby the village is a quiet and peaceful place in the countryside.
Our evening meal at The Cow was delicious and hot. The Full English breakfast was one of the best I've had. Highly recommend.

We booked The Cow for our wedding guests and close family due to the proximity to Grange fields.
Firstly I would not recommend staying here. Whilst the rooms are clean, welcoming and pleasant. The staff and the service are some of the poorest I have ever witnessed. It is clear it wasn't just a off day as reading the previous reviews all have experienced very similar.
Prior to the stay all guests had paid balances in full and we had supplied guest names allocated to particular rooms.
One guest tried to book the night before due to the cow having availability - only to be told they would need to check out at 11 to check back in later that day. Crazy as we had booked the whole of the cow and no need for that guest to do so. They decided to stay elsewhere as they needed to get ready prior to the wedding.
Upon arrival at around 12 you are greeted by some of the most uninterested / rude staff. We were purely dropping bags prior to the wedding as agreed with the Cow. I passed this message on to other guests who would drop bags between 13:00-13:30. Guests were left feeling upcomfortable when told to put a scrap piece of paper on the bags in the bar and somebody would move them eventually.
A few guests even asked for a drink upon arrival welcomed with a grunt and the bar man lifting a bottle of line cleaner before walking off.
Eventually they asked again and were given warm bottles of beer.
As mentioned we booked the whole venue, breakfast is clearly a issue for the Cow. Guests slowly made the way down to breakfast between 8am and 10am it was clear that they could not deal with anymore than 4 breakfasts at one time. Some guests were challenged surrounding checkout around 10:45am. Informing that they had to be out at 11. They had been waiting over one hour for breakfast and still nothing.
I would think twice before booking this establishment for a wedding and certainly if you are looking at putting part of your wedding party here. Please take the inconvenience of travel otherwise you will be left feeling guilty as your friends and family have paid over £200 for one of the worst nights stay they will have.

Really impressed with the experience from our stay at The Cow. The room, the food and the staff were all really really good. The breakfast in particular was superb. Better than many a "hotel" we have stayed in for sure. Would definitely return if needing to stay in the area.
