I only used the restaurant and not the hotel for accommodation, however we found all the staff to be Very hospiceable and very helpful and clearly very well trained without being unnecessarily formal.
The food was fresh and delicious and fairly priced.
I certainly hope for a return visit in the not to distant future as the location, just off the busy A50 is really handy for both Derby, Stoke upon Trent and is is halfway between the M1 motorway and the M6.

Didn't stay, only went in restaurant/bar.
We enjoyed our experience and I can imagine the hotel part is exactly the same.
If in area again will definitely go.

Well looking at some of the reviews I don't think they stayed at the same hotel! I cannot fault the food which was always served with a smile! I have coeliac disease and I have never seen so many gluten free options! I would definitely stay here again, thank you to the staff who work very hard.

The breakfast was £11 and it didn't feel like an £11 breakfast. There was a tiny filter coffee which wasn't great, the breakfast was average at best. Wouldn't go back if I'm honest and would look at somewhere else if I was around that area. Got the distinct impression they didn't want us there by the face a member of staff pulled when the receptionist went to find restaurant staff. I unfortunately saw their reaction in the reflection of a mirror. I wish I would have walked out then to be honest. Not one star but only just two.

Went with 3 friends for tea last night and we had beautiful meals! 3 regular roasts and one mackerel & salad - portions were fab and the food was bang on, 5 types of veg and 2 different potatoes on the roast, and an epic Yorkshire pudding! 2 of us greedily followed up with the lemon roulade which was melt in your mouth to die for!
Staff were great too & very friendly!
Highly recommend x

We went today as a group of 10 to celebrate a birthday. And the amount of flies was unbearable even though we were sat inside. No preventatives seen to try and manage to issue. When we let the waitress know we were told that they?ve tried to deal with the flies using fly spray.
One half of the restaurant was empty which seemed to have no flies. It would have made more sense to seat everybody that end of the restaurant
Food was ok - we?ve been many times and the food was a tad disappointing. I don?t think we would return

Great place to eat with a cosy atmosphere. Staff were very professional and friendly. They couldn't do enough for our party of 14 for a Sunday roast meal. We were staying in a local cottage rental for a 50th birthday celebration (so unable to comment about the hotel rooms) and although we didn't walk to this location it's in a great spot with plenty of scenic views and I can only suspect numerous walking paths.
Service was quick and surprisingly not as expensive as expected (this restaurant/ hotel has a bistro / gastro pub vibe so I thought pricing would have been more expensive than what we paid). Food was amazing and they have vegetarian roast options available too (my aunt had the nut roast and commented that it was fantastic).
Great food, great atmosphere and friendly staff all in an ideal location. We couldn't ask for anything more.

The rooms are pretty standard, dated but clean and nice enough
The food here is not good. I had the large beef Sunday roast (£19). The beef was like the beef you get out of a packet and the rest of the accompanying vegetables were almost like a tv dinner?very strange indeed.
The breakfast was not free or included and was £12 each. It was a very sad affair?1 cup of stewed filter coffee and the full English option was over cooked and measly. The scrambled eggs were out of a packet and so solid I could pick up the entire lot with one fork.

Lovely food in an excellent country hotel. We had the fish combo which was amazing. Best bit is the home made fish cake. Highly recommend this hotel to eat at.
