No better place to stay for a gruelling weekend of walking. The staff, the food and the accommodation were outstanding. Just what we needed.

A mid-walk break for tea as we circumnavigated the lake. Very nice surroundings. I'd like to return for a stay, or just a meal next time I'm in the area.

We had an absolutely wonderful stay here last weekend. A true gem of a place - we fell in love with it straight away! The renovation is absolutely awesome. We loved how you've kept elements of the classic old Cumbrian pub (flagstone floors, wooden beams) but with thoughtfully done, beautiful modern updates. It's a perfect location for a weekend of running in the fells and the food was magnificent fuel for our activities! The three-course meal was totally delicious, with fresh, locally sourced ingredients - mention must be made to the best pudding I've eaten out... ever! (Blood orange posset topped with Yorkshire rhubarb... phwoar!) And awesome hearty breakfasts perfect for big appetites!Room was beautiful and very comfortable and a reasonable price for the Lakes. And finally - huge shout out to the incredibly lovely staff (especially Emily and Rosina) who were friendly, attentive and hilarious and made our stay a joy. Thank you so much, we will be back!Sarah and Ben

Temporarily closed. No notice on their website. They apologised but didn?t indicate that they would do anything more about the absence of a closure notice.Nowhere in village to get refreshment & only an hourly bus service.

Was spot on for me location wise...Anne the manager had a great team of staff who looked after me. Parking was perfect as i carry a lot of gear....a couple of issues let it down on the room front, heating used to go off in the afternoon and when you get back cold and wet and its not much above freezing outside you want to dry your gear and warm up...the other issue i had was the walls/ceiling were paper thin so i was kept awake at night by the insomniacs above me...which was a shame as i am a bed early up early to catch the light...if it wasn't for those issues it would have been 5 stars all round.

The best hotel for a break in the Lake District! The staff were so friendly, the food was amazing! The rooms and decor of the hotel made it feel so homely. 100% would recommend! We?re already planning our next trip back!Food & drinks: The breakfast and dinner was some of the best food we had on our trip!

Lovely hotel well-placed for fabulous walking from the door. Rooms are comfortable, and the public lounge is a cosy place to sit by the fire, play a game or chat to fellow guests. Highlight for me was the food - both breakfast and dinner are excellent quality and value, and they have an interesting wine list.

Good food, good rooms, Great staff. And a drying room, which was needed?Walkability: A good place to start a number if walks. They also will provide a packed lunch (ordered the night before)Noteworthy details: Very quiet, no music and no TV, which is great. The fire was lit every evening and games are available.

I want to compliment this hotel for their renovations obviously made recently. I have NEVER seen such a tastefully done renovation of an older space. And I have also NEVER seen a renovation that clearly considers what a guest might like and need, and then make it so! We stayed with you one night in September, as we did a walking tour for 9 days. I know all rooms are not the same, but since they were all done at the same time, probably this applies to the others too. Staying in many hotels during and after our tour, we saw expensive examples of renovations that just 'fail', seemingly designed and implemented by those who have never stayed in a hotel room. ....

We arrived at the Royal Oak at the end of a very long day of hiking. It was such a welcoming place to arrive. Breakfast, lunch and dinner were quickly explained and we were taken to our rooms where we could get our packs off and try to recover. It had been explained to us that it was part of our booking to eat dinner at the pub/hotel, and while we would have done that anyway, I was nervous that the food would not be up to par. I was so wrong. The food was wonderful. It was slightly higher end than we expected and was absolutely delicious. All four in our group commented on how nice it was to get something different from the excellent pub grub we had been eating. Breakfast was equally good and they had an amazing coffee maker that allowed me to get a decaf flat white to start the day.
