We were gifted an overnight stay with a Wowcher voucher from family and decided to add an extra night?s stay. I emailed the hotel directly about the additional night and phoned to pay by credit card for the extra night. During that conversation I confirmed that although the booking was under my DIL?s name the extra night was booked and paid for by myself. I emailed again on the same thread as my original emails (their reservations email address) two nights before our stay to enquire about gluten free breakfast options and had a reply from Sarah on Sunday 17th March confirming that this wasn?t a problem. We arrived today for our stay to be told that the hotel had a problem with their heating and hot water and all reservations had been cancelled. Sarah, the manager, came to speak to us and said that everyone had been contacted about their reservations being cancelled. She said she had sent 4 emails and had had no response. She claimed to have emailed my daughter in law who bought the voucher, but hadn?t emailed me even though my own email address had been used to contact them on several occasions. We had travelled from Glasgow, so obviously had come a good distance. Sarah was very rude to us from the start of our conversation. She was insistent that she had tried to contact us and said there was nothing she could do. At one point she said if we had been nicer to her she would have helped us find alternative accommodation. We went round in circles trying to make her realise that the hotel had made no attempt to contact me. On speaking to our family we have since discovered that no emails have been received cancelling the booking. We eventually were refunded for my direct booking, but will need to also get a refund from Wowcher. The hotel were clearly at fault for not contacting us even though they had my email address, but instead of apologising Sarah said she was too busy to go through their emails and contact the guests coming to stay this week. They only have 11 rooms, so hardly a difficult task. The way we were spoken to by the manager was disgraceful. I have never experienced such poor customer service from someone. We will never be back after the way we were spoken to.

Our room was arranged via an experience voucher. We tried to change it three days before, but the hotel said it was too late. So we went. We shouldn't have bothered. We were offered room 1. Watch out for room 1. I've now seen other reviews for it. It's nothing like any of the 'example' photos that are on the Web. It's a standard, wooden framed double bed with only just enough space to walk around it. Very small bathroom. Awful. With the weather set in for heavy rain, we couldn't possibly stay in such a grotty room for so long so we just turned round and drove home again. Be warned - reviews are mixed.

I don?t know about the rooms or the food and location but the service is terrible.Once I booked from wowcher I seen the bad reviews from here and I was kinda okay maybe if I ask them they will give me some more information as I never booked before via wowcher. However they sent me an automated mail which had nothing to do with my wowcher booking. After I sent my concerns, she immediately told me to go somewhere else and canceled my booking.I was about to gift the wowcher to the other couple who would be with us.Guys this people don?t want guests and by the mails Sarah seemed to be very rude and on a rush.

Went to this pub which I?m not going to lie, served very good food and couldn?t fault it. The reason I?m rating it a 1 star was down to the experience. We went there with our dog, they made a full on song and dance about how dogs are better than people and they are VIP, awesome! So we asked if they had any meat and veg for the dog to have a little doggy dinner with us and they said yes. Out comes a sausage and a little bit of veg, perfect. We go to pay and they charge us £17! Apparently the sausage was a Cumberland sausage and they don?t do doggy meals. First of all the dog meal did look fab, however our dog is a pug, he?s tiny, we clearly stated meat for the dog, yes they presented it well but we just assumed that?s because ?dogs are better than humans?. Why we are appalled at the experience is because they said there must have been a miscommunication as they don?t serve dog food and therefore they put through an adults Cumberland sausage meal. For such a dog friendly establishment, I don?t believe they have not been asked for a doggy dinner before and therefore I believe they did this on purpose. They never said they don?t do dog meals and therefore we?d need to order an actual meal, no warning, just pure great customer service and over the top dog comments to then hit us with a bill of £17 for the dogs meal. Which is more expensive than our £16 roasts.Personally, if they didn?t offer a dog meal, they should have said this. We did pay but also tried to complain. I say ?tried? because when we did the member of staff who served us was on break and the manager was conveniently away. Which left us with their supervisor who repeatedly said ?sorry, there was a miscommunication but you won?t be getting any money back?, despite us not asking for money back. We were only raising the fact that what they did was wrong. We completely appreciate we ended up with a Cumberland sausage adults meal which is why we paid for it and our dog? we have split in to 3 portions which I?m sure he will love over the next few days. It?s just the dishonest approach to all of it that has put a bad taste in our mouth.Anyway, the place was a little dirty, carpets old, my dog wouldn?t even lie down on it and tables were pretty sticky. Staff never checked up on us to see if our meals were ok but like I said, the food was good so I looked past these issues. If it wasn?t for the dog situation I?d rate it a 3 star.

Definitely what they call a mixed experience. Came here on a Monday and it was so good we rebooked for Friday where our experience was not so good. But I cannot fault the staff and how issues were dealt with.On the Monday, seated at nice table in main bar. Hardly any ales on but the Windermere IPA was really good. Starters- Shetland mussels. These were outstanding and the sauce great to mop with the hunk of bread provided. Italian meatballs- very tasty in a smooth tomato sauce. Mains of rib eye, fish and chips, burger and veggie burger were all very tasty and no complaints at all. With drinks bill was about 160.Service great, staff friendly. Informed new chef and new menu.Friday we booked the same time and requested same table. The pub was far busier this time. But our table was prepared and we sat down and got our drinks bought to us. We sat for 15 minutes before we had to ask for menus. Starters this time - meatballs again but no where near as good as Monday., different look, taste and texture. Prawns pil pil with chorizo, tasty but incredibly small portion, mussels again - still good.Mains - I asked for the Jerk pork belly and asked if they could make it really hot. They did not disappoint. It was seriously hot. Game pie was really well received and massive. Two Shepherds pies were far too salty to the point of being inedible. But we were not charged for them and got 10% off the rest of the bill. Such a shame but I put it down to being really busy and not enough staff. We will be back. Be warned it is not very accessible

We arrived at the hotel at 3pm for check-in and our complimentary bottle of Prosecco. Upon arrival we were told that the hotel was experiencing a power outage and we would not be able to access our room or redeem our bottle of complimentary Prosecco until at least 6pm. We had travelled from London and after being caught in a storm our clothes were very wet. We needed to shower, dry our things, and get ready as we had an event that we were attending at 5.30pm in Ambleside. We were told they couldn?t do anything and we should go away for a few hours and come back. We had nowhere to go and the storm had till not passed. We told the staff that if we were just given access to our room, we could at least get ready. This request was denied as they said they didn?t know our room number. We asked if we could have access to any vacant room. Again they advised they didn?t know which rooms were vacant. At this point we had to find alternative accommodation. Very disappointed with the service we received by hotel staff. No effort was made to remedy situation and we were made to feel like it was our problem. I called the hotel at 6.00pm to inform them of the situation and that we were cancelling our reservation the staff were again rude to me and didn?t once apologise. They also refused my request of a refund.
