Absolutely fantastic place. We booked for a Sunday lunch, booking was easy and had confidence as they took my number just in case. The beer garden and play area where very charming and peaceful. Small field for the day area with a couple of swings. Patio type area with quite a few wooden tables and chairs. Inside we were greeted very warmly and seated by a very friendly woman. Menus provided quickly and order taken promptly, lovely selection on the vegan and vegetarian specials board as well as the main menu and children's menu. The food was delicious, hot and served really quickly. Even so we never felt rushed and had a lovely table in a little nook. We were playing a few games of uno around waiting for our mains and then waiting for our desserts and when we hadn't quite finished a game when our youngest daughter had gone out to play we were told there was no rush to leave as the table wasn't booked again for a few hours. It was so relaxing and the food was amazing and good service that it will be our go to pub for food whenever we are in Eskdale now, thoroughly recommend the place if you are in the area.

Stayed overnight at this pub/hotel and quite honestly I can?t fault it. We had a very warm welcome on our arrival from super friendly staff. We had our dog with us and he was also made very welcome. The room we had was lovely and spacious. Again, I can?t fault it as it was sparkling clean and had a great view of the hills and surrounding countryside. The en-suite was problem free and we had plenty of towels for our overnight stay. Biscuits and tea and coffee were provided in the room which was an added bonus. The food was of the highest quality. Expertly cooked and well presented. The evening meal had a vast choice of daily specials and we were spoilt for choice. The free breakfast was one of the tastiest I?ve ever had.I highly recommend this pub either with or without your pet as it is superb.

Lovely pub in a fairly remote location with Great access to fantastic walks and scenery. Our room was clean and well presented and what I would expect for a walking based business. The jewel in the crown here is the food and drink, I haven't had such good food for probably 20 years and if it wasn't 250 miles away I would be there every weekend.Nearby activities: We stayed here for access to Scafell pike but a drive through hardknott pass and wrynose pass should be on your list of things to do.

Had a wonderful meal here after a day in the hills and what a perfect visit it was. Greeted by friendly staff at the bar who asked if we wanted to sit inside or out and pointed us to the specials board.Cold pint and a browse of the menu later we were tucking into our Sunday roast and Steak and Ale pie. The beef was a little fatty but other than that delicious. I actually woke up the following day thinking about my Sunday roast.Amazing.I've given the rooms 4 stars as I can't comment as we didn't stay there.Perfect spot. Great service and great choice of beers and wine. A little pricey but defo worth it.

We were a big family group, 8 ad 6 ch and we didnt realise food wasn't served between 3 and 5 but luckily it was 240. We all ordered and the food came out quickly. Great portions. Service was great too. Kids played on the swings before we walked round the corner to Eskdale Mill.Nearby activities: Eskdale Mill was fab for the kids and a great price too!Walkability: Just a 5 min walk from the steam railway station.
