“Cottage No 4 with the sauna was certainly an excellent location! A beautiful view down the river Leven and the sound of the water was awesome! Daily you would see the rafters from Lake District White Water Rafting pass by and see the steam train puffs above the trees. The cottage had absolutely everything we could need, including a cute welcome doggy bag for our Lab. As we had a dog, a small side gate to contain him (or kids) away from the communal area and fast flowing river could be handy. We had a slight annoyance one morning, i messaged via my Booking.com app and a handyman was at our door and sorted within the hour. Perfect! Even though we had use of our own sauna we decided to take up the Cascades membership (£65 for a family of 4 for the week) which allowed us to use the pool, sauna, steam room, jacuzzi, gym and squash courts. I had seen on another review that electricity was extra, but apparently ours was included (Booking.com). We didn't use the hotel for dinner, it did always seem quite quiet but if you do want to use it, you have to book a table by 6pm for that evening. The Swan pub is 2 miles up the road at Newby Bridge. Great location, great atmosphere and food. The Anglers pub (in the opposite direction) was very quiet but very polite and welcoming amd has a pool table. Pick up your shopping before getting to the cottage as local shops are a no no. The closest we found was a Premier located in the Shell garage at Newby Bridge. Higginson Butchers at Grange over Sands is a must!!! Their pies are addictive and their lamb is devine!! We ordered a half a lamb a couple of days before we left to bring home with us. All in all, a delightful stay.”
