Great pub with rooms. A very warm welcome is given by super staff. Accommodation is particularly comfortable and clean. Food all good and well priced. Beautiful location. A really good buzz to the place on our Friday night stopover. Recommended without hesitation.

Lovely local pub. Staff were friendly and helpful. Came here several days in a row for rounds of pints and bar snacks. Even came and told us when the kitchen opened so we could get our cheesy chips. Always busy and nice atmosphere. Would definitely recommend for holiday goers like ourselves. ?

Stayed the night in the upstairs annex room with the dogs. The decor is very stylish, and we slept really well in the herdysleep bed and bedding. Dinner and breakfast in the pub were lovely. We went for the winter dinner and bnb deal, which was very reasonable for our stop en route to Scotland. Highly recommend. Only piece of advice for those not used to driving single lane roads, come into the village from Penrith direction rather than from Shap ?

Welcoming village pub, good atmosphere, good service, nice range of beers, beautiful location. Dog friendly. Food looked and smelled good, but only had drinks on this visit.

Lovely, friendly staff. Great pint, just what you need after a tough day in the hills.

Stayed here for the night due to bad weather nearby which disrupted our original plans. Staff went above and beyond to accommodate us on a busy night, booked a room with evening meal and breakfast for £170. Fantastic value with brilliant food and facilities and great staff. Looking forward to staying again, can't recommend it enough.

Dropped in for a quick beer after a cold day on the hill. Delighted to find this place open again. Red hot log fire and a perfect pint of Loweswater Gold! So cosy I even went for their fish and chips option. Not your average "chish and fips"! Service was excellent and the kitchen even fired up early to feed me. Its also nice to see that the new set up is a community owned co-op. Well worth a visit.Food & drinks: As above. Very good.

Fantastic meal had here by me and my wife. The food was wonderful ,staff very attentive. Lovely to see the pub open again and what a success story for the local community to have this wonderful pub back at the centre of the community again. We will definitely be back - maybe stay with you next time.

Treated ourselves to the dinner, bed and breakfast package for 3 nights and have loved every minute of our stay. We first visited not long after this community owned pub reopened, then again shortly after they started their food offering, so an opportunity to combine this with a stay in their wonderfully refurbished rooms was a real treat. Food and atmosphere are both great, and all supported by a friendly and helpful staff team. We left feeling very much part of the Mardale family.Rooms: Cosy, warm rooms tastefully decorated with local furnishings and the most comfortable Herdy bed.Nearby activities: Perfectly situated as a base to explore the quieter side of the lakes. A range of walks for all abilities are helpfully included in the information pack and we loved the walk to Shap Abbey.Food & drinks: Breakfast and dinner menus focus on local produce and cater well for all tastes.
