A very comfortable and welcoming stay. We enjoyed the coziness of the cottage which was spotlessly clean. A delicious welcome basket of snacks & wine awaited us. Great location for visiting the lakes and walking. We will definitely be returning next year.

Excellent welcome and lots of little touches. Welcoming basket with a bottle of wine, a few packs of local biscuits, crisp. A couple of home made scones from Karen with clotted cream in the fridge and 2 jars of jam. Lastly a loaf of bread made at the local bakery. Nothing needed at all. The cottage we stayed in was really cosy and tidy. Everything and more. The location we thought at first was a little out of the way, but we soon found that it is only 20 minutes from Penrith, and just 30 minutes from Lake Ulswater. Great base to enjoy everything the lakes have to offer. There are 4 cottages to chose from all in a lovely courtyard. They sleep from 2 to 4 people. Karen and Paul the owners have thought of everything. Thank You

Stayed at Hawthorn Cottage and had a lovely time. Welcome hamper on arrival, including cream tea & scones, run by very friendly couple. Great mountain bike trails from the door and a hike up the hills behind the property. Comfy bed and super quiet for sleeping ?

We went to the Church Court Cottages in August 2020 to spend long back holiday with family. The property is in excellent condition, very pleasant, warm and cosy. The village of Gamblesby is a lovely quiet with excellent view. The host both Karen and Paul very helpful and friendly. They provided all the helpful details about the stay and also to visit places in lake district and surrounding areas. They also provided us with the home made scones with cream and jam, kids loved it. The beds are comfy and the kitchen fully equipped, toilet and shower are in very good condition. We are planning to come back again to spend the holiday next year and definitely recommend to friends and family to stay there. Thank you again Karen and Paul for the amazing hospitality.

We really enjoyed our stay here. Our cottage, Hawthorn, was very comfortable with a very well equipped kitchen, good size tv in the living room and excellent very fast Wi-Fi. Fresh scones and other yummies on arrival was lovely after a long journey. There?s a lovely courtyard area at the front of the cottage which is a real sun trap. This is a great place for a quiet and peaceful getaway. The village nestles at the foot of the Pennines and is also within easy reach of the Lake District so a good base for walkers and hikers or anyone who loves the outdoors. Karen and Paul know the area well and have lots of ideas for places to visit, walks from the cottage etc.

A great weekend. Many thanks to our hosts for such a warm welcome and their extensive knowledge of the area. Excellent picturesque location convenient for both the Lake District and North Yorkshire. A beautiful spacious barn conversion with ample space for 4 adults (and dogs).

What can I say! Everything was perfect. We arrived (3 adults and one dog!) at The Barn and Herdwick to find an unexpected welcome hamper including treats for the dog and a delicious Cream tea for the adults. The Barn was spacious yet cosy and had everything that we needed, the Herdwick was cosy and similarly appointed. The village is a pretty and peaceful place to wander and walk the dog and there is a short walk, or drive, to the village of Melmerby which has a fabulous pub (best roast I've ever had) and amazing tea room/bakery - both of which were recommended by Church Court Cottages lovely Management team, Karen and Paul. They also recommended another local walk which we spent the best part of Sunday enjoying which included some interesting caves and a gorgeous stroll by the river. The location is a perfect base for exploring the area, not far from the beautiful Lake District which we also explored whilst staying at Church Court. Thoroughly recommend and look forward to returning.

The couple who manage the cottages give you a very warm and friendly welcome. They are happy to advise on good walks nearby and places to eat. The two pub and bakery recommendations that we were able to visit were both superb (and within walking distance from Gamblesby). I had the smallest cottage, Herdwick, which is very cosy and has everything you need for a self catering holiday. My friends had the largest cottage, the Barn, which has a spacious open plan kitchen and lounge with a lovely view of the fell behind. Gamblesby is a beautiful little village and a great base to explore the stunning countryside surrounding it.

I booked a last minute stay at the Barn Cottage. It was spacious yet cosy, lovely views, really warm log burner. The new management couldn't do enough for us. They made us feel extremely welcome. We arrived to a home made lemon cake, a welcome welcome pack for us & the dog! It has tonnes of character & charm and I would definitely recommend & return . Thank you for such a lovely stay.

Church court cottages is lovely, quiet accommodation -under new management. We were the first people to rent since Karen and Paul took over and they couldn?t have been more helpful. Very welcoming and made us feel at home. We arrived late and thankfully to an amazing welcome pack including some delicious homemade lemon drizzle cake and treats for our dog! There?s a lovely local bakery/shop nearby and a short drive to Alston through Hartside Pass. Also lots to do and easy access for Penrith and the Lake District. The beds are comfy and the kitchen fully equipped. I was disappointed though, as we couldn?t light the log fire? unfortunately it wasn?t cold enough? maybe next time!

I genuinely can't believe it's still aloud to be ran as business. Ruth and Peter shouldn't be in the industry completely rude and a law to their own. Electric costs is absurd , they freely enter when they please. We left for a day out and forgot something nipped back to see them walcing out of our cottage and quickly ran back into there home and peeped out the window !! Sure it's illegal!! You feel like your on a school trip waiting to be put on the naughty step for even breathing !! Never ever again !! Avoid at all costs.
