I have the sweetest memories from staying in this hotel. We stayed here for 4 nights and had the opportunity to enjoy the Lakes. Everything in this hotel is made with love and with the wish people to enjoy staying here: cozy room, tasty breakfasts, restaurant with good food for dinner, convenient terrace. I liked very much the big map of the Lake District, funny jokes on the walls and the accessories in the dining area, especially "Enjoy Every moment". Thank you very much to Richard and all staff for the hospitality and warm welcome! I would definitely like to get back and highly recommend this hotel!

Stayed here with a group of 8 Americans. It was centrally located to the Dalemain Estate where the Fell Pony Society Breed Show is held annually and this is what our trip was based on, theme-wise. The town where it's located is quaint and quiet. The room I had was very comfortable with a desk, a remodeled bathroom which was very nice, and a window with a view of slate roofs, which was nice as I had privacy and could keep it open all the time. I would say go here for the warmth, hospitality. Yes there are fancier places to stay, but this flat-out felt like home for us. We felt safe, we felt cared for. We had a sweet send off by the owner. Our travel guide worked closely with him to make sure all our needs were met. There is a terrific sun room and backyard sitting area, which we only got to enjoy once as it was raining all 10 days we were there, but that was ok being that we all came from horrid summer heat at home and green lush grounds with mist was just what we all needed to recharge. Dinners were lovely, and never had a bad dish - lots of variety to choose from. Breakfast was included and there is nothing like a healthy home cooked breakfast to start a busy day of hiking in the fell to see ponies. They accommodated our time frames, and we all had our own tables but in the same room, so it was really nice. The portions are huge, so keep that in mind. The cuisine leaned on older fashioned. Drinks and wine really great, had a grapefruit gin drink one night, very good. Also, many healthy options. Staff were very polite and helpful. They didn't scoff at asking for ketchup with chips, =) Many wonderful memories shared. In comparison to a few other places I stayed in the Lake District and North Yorkshire, I'd say the quiet factor was key. There is so much tourism right now in these areas, that it can be deafening. Been coming out from 2019 and the world has very much changed post-covid. In other areas you can be at a group dinner and not hear each other, because it's so crowded. At our dinners, we felt like we were in someone's house. There were other visitors, but it wasn't packed. It was well worth it to be outside the trendy spots. Also, I've stayed at fancier places that don't service the room at all. They did tidy my room and replace used towels, TP, without me having to ask. It's a 2 star in listing, but in my heart, it will always be 5 star in spirit, because they broke the mold after these owners came by. And it's the people that make it what it is. If we stay here next year, I will be eager to see if I can find some walking or running paths even if it's on the road. We were going from morning to night, so I didn't get a chance to explore the town much on foot which is what I normally do when I visit for the same reason (the ponies).

The best night sleep I've had away from home. A delightful quaint hotel with good food, friendly service and a very pretty garden. Comfortable, clean and would happily recommend for additional visits

My family have been coming here to the restaurant for many years. The food is fantastic and the service is great. Would like more veggie/vegan choice but that's just personal preference

We had a very comfortable night at this hotel. The bedroom had been recently refurbished, the bathroom was excellent and the bed ideal. We were made very welcome. The public areas are generous and there is a charming touch of a retro old fashioned and comfortable feel about the whole place. Unpretentious. There is plenty of parking and a good sized outdoors seating area. The fish and chips in the restaurant were first class. My wife enjoyed her trout. Good selection of wines. Very good value. We look forward to returning.

We visited for lunch recently, a group of 8. The dining room tables were set nicely with pretty fresh daffodils on the table, a very nice touch as it was was Easter. I ordered pate for starter, which was served alongside brown toasted sliced bread, which had been cut into what appeared to what I would describe as?soldiers? that you would have with a boiled egg. It may have been the kitchen had run out of the type of bread more usually served with pate. Some of the group had the soup which they described as delicious. We had a variety of main courses from the roast beef, roast chicken, steak pie and everyone described their food as excellent. We love the fact the vegetables are brought to the table in serving dishes so you can help yourself. The portions given are always very generous. The bar and restaurant are cosy, welcoming and warm, the staff are very friendly too. I would say that there is a sofa in the conservatory that needs replacing, it is like sitting on a concrete slab as the base has no support. We would highly recommend Brentwood for lunch or dinner, delicious food which is great value for money

Really friendly hotel, at a good position to venture into the Lakes. We were on the way home from Scotland and were looking for somewhere to stay with an evening meal. The room was very comfortable and the evening meal was good, if, on the face of it, straight out of the late 70s.

We were staying in the area and decided to eat in the restaurant. We were greeted by the friendly owner and his staff in a warm cosy pub area of the hotel. There was a good selection of food on the menu. We thoroughly enjoyed the fish and chips and risotto followed by raspberry cheesecake. We enjoyed the atmosphere and food that much we returned on our last night in the Lakes and had the meaty spare ribs and lasagna.

I can't rate this place highly enough - they were able to accommodate at short notice when I had to extend my stay due to a family emergency and were also able to find me a room later in the week when I returned to Penrith after a quick trip to home and back. A nice country hotel and pub, decent quiet rooms, good food, nice beer and very friendly staff in a nice village. Well worth it as a stopping point, especially if you are breaking your journey to points North - very handy for J40 of the M6. Reasonably priced too. Give them a try!
