We came for the tasting menu while on honeymoon and what a lovely way to celebrate!
The menu was great - a wonderful range of savoury and sweet dishes, cooked to such a high standard.
1863 were wonderful hosts, and the service was impeccable.
I may have eaten some bloody delicious food, but I also may have enjoyed the finest espresso martini I've ever had. What a delight.

Pooley Bridge is a great location to stay and explore the Northern Lakes with several very welcoming inns with great beer gardens and decent food. The 1863 Restaurant & Rooms however is on a different level altogether. We stayed for two nights in the Luxury Suite (room 7) which, although smaller than we had anticipated, was extremely comfortable and well appointed. The real reason to stay here though is to enjoy the restaurant experience. On our first night we had the 3 course option which was imply superb. The presentation, quality of food and level of attention from the team were all exceptional. We indulged ourselves with the 7 course "Taster" menu on the 2nd night which actually turned out to be almost 10 courses with the little extras that arrived. We thought our first experience would be hard to improve on but night two and the 7 course option was simply sublime. Thank you to all of the team for making our stay so special.

Excellent rooms that were well stocked with quality supplies.
Comfortable.
Food in restaurant was amazing. Small courses on a seasonal three course menu. Satisfied as a few extras fill the gaps between service. A great treat

Came here to celebrate our anniversary. We have really enjoyed ourselves and had a great time. We've ordered a 7 course tasting menu. Service was excellent, staff were very kind, explained all the dishes well. The whole experience took more than 3 hours and felt just right - not rushed and relaxed enough to have a chat between dishes.
Food was very good and it's hard to fault it, but since this is a fine dining restaurant I'll try my best. My favorite was the nordic halibut - so delicate, juicy and the sparkles of acidity coming through felt like fireworks in my mouth. I also enjoyed the first snack which I believe was a celeriac mouse with egg yolk and truffle shavings on top - divine. Other dishes were beautifully presented and well balanced and you could find everything you're looking for - sweet, salty, sour, crunchy etc. My one criticism would be the pork which I think needs more work. The portion is quite large, the flavors very bold and strong, fat was still a tiny bit chewy and it was quite salty as well. You really need a good glass of wine to go with it. The goosberry fool was really lovely but if you didn't tell me it had goosberries I couldn't tell you either. The main desert was wonderful - really good balance of sweetness and soureness. Beautifully built, the merangue so light and the the sorbet packed with flavour. Overall a great evening to remember.

Simply fantastic. Everything made for a thoroughly enjoyable evening. The service was friendly and attentive but not overbearing. The 3 front of staff, Laura, Nino and Kerry were knowledgeable and helpful. The food was delicious, in particular the halibut with warm tartare sauce and jersey royals. All cooked beautifully and perfectly balanced, each course had its merits. We shared an additional cheese course and none of it was over-chilled, so a lovely end to the meal. The wine list is interesting and not over-priced. Overall the 3 course menu, with bread, amuse-bouche and petit fours and coffee, was worth every penny. Well done to the team at 1863, we?ll definitely be back.

Visited on 28/04/24 and had the set menu as a party of 4. The service was immaculate from start to finish from the staff who deal with us. The young lady who presented the cuisine was knowledgable and friendly and the gentleman who served the wine wonderfully articulated how each of the pairings would (and did) complement the meals we had selected. The evening was everything we could have wished for regarding the excellent food and wine and for myself personally, was made even better by the experience of having wines paired so beautifully with each individual dish. Please pass on my compliments to the staff tonight for their exceptional culinary knowledge that really elevated the evening for us.Will highly recommend!

Me and my partner were celebrating 5 years together and wanted to treat ourselves so booked to have the 3 course dinner. It was the perfect meal and we were both overjoyed with the flavour and the top class service that came with it. We also loved the additional plates like the duck and the chocolate to finish.I would highly recommend visiting.

Wow, wow wow! From the moment we walked through the door, we were made to very special for my husband?s leap year birthday celebration. The food was absolutely beautifully presented, but was certainly not style over substance. Each course was absolutely divine, our favourites being the lamb tartare, lamb loin with sticky lamb breast and the rhubarb and egg custard dessert. The server was extremely knowledgeable about each course, explaining them in detail, emphasising the restaurant?s use of locally sourced produce. We opted for the three course dinner, but next time would have no hesitation opting for the seven course taster menu with matched wines. A most enjoyable and memorable evening. Huge thanks to the chefs team - Dan, Neil, Margot and Molly. Also to Kerry and Nino, the front of house team. We will most definitely return - thank you.

We only ate in the restaurant, so I?ve left the bedrooms review blank. We had the tasting menu, which was reasonably priced. The food was fantastic, the staff were lovely, friendly and very attentive. Location would be difficult to get to without a car but it?s well worth the visit.
