My husband and I had Sunday lunch here a couple of weeks ago.We were seated in a room at the rear of the bar, right next to the toilet door. The table was dirty and it rocked. On investigation we discovered one of the legs was only just still attached to the table top, someone had tried unsuccessfully to tighten the joint with a beer mat. The food (main course) was ok and we intended to have dessert. But after waiting for more than 20 minutes for someone to remove our plates and take an order for dessert we decided to leave. Whilst paying at the bar we told the young lady that we were disappointed not to have had dessert, she said we could be RESEATED and have dessert. We declined, choosing to drive on to Seascale where we had delicious icecreams from Mawson's ice-cream shop. The entire experience at Bower House was very disappointing.Food & drinks: Very average food.Dreadful service.Dirty unstable table.

Loved my stay here, run by friendly welcoming people. The bar was cosy for a February evening, can imagine it is beautiful in the summer with the outdoor area. Dinner was excellent as was breakfast, early service at 7am was great as it gave me the chance to have an early breakfast before leaving for work. The single room I stayed in had everything I needed, was warm and the bed comfortable. Thanks

Lovely location and setting. Its a nice building and well kept for its age. Breakfast I had was delicious also. No hot water, though, so I couldn't have a shower or bath :(

Came here for 2 nights for food whilst staying locally to climb.Service was very friendly from everyone and it?s a lovely setting with a warm, old style pub feel with an open fireplace. The food was great and opted for the pork belly both nights because it was so good! The burger and the steak pie were also good choices from my friend.

This is a fantastic pub restaurant and hotel, firstly the staff and owners are fantastic great service always with a smile on thier faces, the pub is just so welcoming it's like sitting in your living room with friends,it's the most dog friendly place I've ever been to our Rosie loves it we just let her off her lead she just flops in front of the log fire and has a sleep then she goes and says hello to all the other people and dogs in there its brilliant, then their is the food which is simply outstanding every meal I've had and it's quite a few has been restaurant quality my highlight is the steak and ale pie ? all I can say is wow desserts are also fantastic and they cater very well for gluten free which is a godsend for my fiance, breakfast is very good plenty of fruit cereals juice tea coffee and a fantastic full English although their are also plent of other things to have on the menu you even get a sausage for your dog,the rooms are clean tidy could do with a bit of an update but the beds are comfortable and they are warm the hotel caters for walkers and they don't mind if you come in the pub with muddy boots, their is also a drying room and electric charge point and ample carparking, I cannot recommend the Bower house enough and can't wait for our next visit 11/10

Lovely little gem of a place in the best part of the lakes.Had 5 casks on when I visited. Tim Taylors was spot on.Had the Buttermilk chicken burger which came with homemade chips and was probably one the best burgers I've had in ages.Room was very comfortable with beautiful views of Muncaster fell. I imagine the garden in summer is a perfect place to sit of an evening. Will deffo be back.
