Unique atmosphere and organisation. Duck starter broth was amazing, a bit too quickly served for the rest of the plates. Nice home-cooked meals!
Really great price/value balance and unique personal experience!

It's a few years since we managed to visit the Overwater Restaurant, but Julie was just as welcoming as ever and the food as good if not better than we remembered, all home grown or locally sourced. Highly recommended

For one night we were transported into a wonderful new world full of flavour, far away from the usual restaurant offerings, whether fast food or nouveau cuisine.
The building used to be a public house, but now has comfortable sofas arranged round a roaring log fired oven (where potatoes were steadily roasting). Dining is in the same room. There were two tables available seating a total of six. At the opposite end of the room to the oven was a bar, which although small was adequately stocked to satisfy most tastes. Behind the bar and out of site, was the kitchen.
Our hostess, Julie, saw to all our needs as well as doing all the cooking. There is no written menu. Julie will cook each meal individually from whatever is available or what she has previously prepared. The emphasis is on taste and freshness, and much of it is grown on the premises.
We were offered a seat by the fire while we had a drink. We had a white wine, and as I was driving I was offered a delicious homemade cordial. We chose chicken broth and a tomato and mozzarella salad as starters. Mains were a chicken dinner and pork loin, both served with fresh vegetables and a lovely sauce. Puddings were a ginger cake with rhubarb and homemade custard, and gooseberry crumble and custard.
We had arrived before 6pm and after a while another couple arrived for a later sitting. In such a cosy atmosphere soon we were all chatting, about anything and everything.
It was a lovely and memorable evening. Thank you to Julie. We will return.
You do have to telephone to book. Julie will try to fit you in but does need notice. When you phone she will discuss any of your likes and dislikes and allergies.

Gorgeous home-cooked food and a warm welcome from Julie - this was a perfect way to recover and re-charge after a hard day?s cycling on the C2C. So nice to be welcomed into someone?s home. A lovely and memorable evening.

We had a great meal at Overwater this week. I had Duck and the wife had Pheasant. All with home grown, yes home grown Veg. The sticky toffee pudding with custard and was spot on. It is a different restaurant, but that is what we like. If in the area ring up and book a table, it is a must. Should be 6 star!

A very intimate a personal service. We booked in advance and were treated to a lovely three course meal cooked by Julie. The produce was all home grown and locally sourced. On a rainy snowy night in December there was warm welcome, and the log fire roaring away, was a treat. Julie was our personal chief and offered a choice of 3 starters, 3 mains, and 3 desserts. We had leak and potato soup, and poached egg and bacon on a bed of salad to start. Accompanied by homemade bread which was excellent The main was pheasant. cabbage, mash potato, and peas in a honey mustard sauce. Then to finish, rhubarb and strawberry crumble, with vanilla ice cream. Thank to Julie for a lovely evening we will return. Well recommended

Highly recommended for small groups! Simply delicious, Julia is a brilliant chef. We were spoilt for choice with fresh breads, choice of three starters, two mains and two puddings prepared using lots of home-grown ingredients. Of course I had to try some of each and pretty much rolled home afterwards.

Although some people may find the owner somewhat opinionated for an excellent and unique dining experience this cannot be beaten.

Staying at the Miners Arms and discovered the Overwater restaurant on the opposite side of the river. You have to book 24 hrs in advance and pay with cash. The restaurant is very small and homely and serves home grown and reared food as much as possible. We had a simple salad starter with a delicious roast duck main course and a chocolate and rhubarb dessert. All excellently prepared. A great meal and a real ?experience?.

Julie has made an excellent 3 cours diner at an honest price. The vegetables came fresh from her own garden and were good prepared. Also the desert was heavenly. We do recommend this place.
