A special friend and myself called in on a Thursday evening for the first time. The building and location is stunning, the welcome we received was fantastic, so friendly. We will definitely be calling again, next time we will sample the food ?. The cheeky baby Guinness as we tried to leave was great. This place is highly recommended. Thank you Emma and Nick ?

Booked at the wheatsheaf for their Sunday Roast as the reviews looked great. Having not eaten throughout the day and travelled 2 hours to taste this supposedly great meal. when we arrived we got seated straight away and handed the menus.
NO sunday dinners left? Now it wasn't busy when we arrived but we assumed must of been busy before we arrived, but id like to think a common courtesy call to make us aware would of been a little less disappointing rather than being sat down to find out off the menu, even when booking in the waitress did not make us aware.
Apart from pork there was no meat available at all and no sundries fir their Sunday roasts.
We asked for a simple starter of cheesy garlic bread...... waitress returned and apologised that they had no bread to make it?! She then advised that they could still make it but on a slightly different dough mixture.... fine let's go with that...... then returned AGAIN to explain they didnt even have that dough mixture?! So we both opted out of starters.
I ordered a burger and chips, and the wife ordered a cheese and onion pie....
The burger was edible but the chips were very anaemic and bland.
The wife's pie pastry was nice but the inside was just a stodgy mess, yet again chips very anaemic..... top it off no gravy???
Waitresses very miserable, not very welcoming
Very disappointing

The Wheatsheaf is a period designed establishment and very authentic. Food and drinks are very good. Staff friendly and helpful. Our room (4) was interesting and well decorated in keeping with the style of the pub. It was compact but enough space. The bathroom was good. Access is via two flights of stairs so not for people with mobility issues, not an issue for us.

Service was crazy slow (staff were very nice though). Food was mostly ok but the bread we got was very very dry.

Delicious food, lovely home-made meals with great portion sizes. The pies were particularly good. Excellent service from Callum, Elicia and Noah - all quick and very friendly. Not cheap but was very worth the price for us, all round great dinner.

The room we had was very dusty,no carpets wooded old floor with old tin plates nailed to the floor. Bathroom floor very dirty and sticky, when you walk you slide. Bedside lamps very Dusty and and the bedframe was also very very Dusty.

An interesting property with many old features but our stay was abysmal due to finding a lot of filth in our bedroom which we found on the picture frames,tv,bedside cabinets, wardrobe, headboard and on the bare wooden floors with old tin lids nailed down to cover numerous holes in the boards. The bathroom although very modern was absolutely filthy with long hairs under the wash basin,a thick layer of dust and hairs covered several areas of the floor which also had been treated with some sticky substance that became very slippery when standing on it.Meals were nothing special with ours leaving a thick oily film on the plates. Breakfast service although pre-booked was very slow leaving us with an empty teapot before our toast arrived and this is with an empty restaurant apart from many flies which kept landing on our food.
