The room was comfortable, clean and tidy but the window catches were too high for me to close, there was something going on in the square that kept me awake until 3am. My hubby is deaf so it didn't bother him, but the noise was horrendous. I then got news of a serious illness at home and had to cut our visit short. The duty manager offered to refund for the night we couldn't stay but as yet not received a penny. We booked for 2 nights with a possibility of a 3rd. We were celebrating our wedding anniversary with a trip to Lake windermere and further sightseeing. We had to cut everything short. It is now over 3 weeks since our trip. It seems the delightful duty manager has no power whatsoever. I was looking forward to the evening meal which had been well recommended.

Really good place for an early evening meal. Decent menu plus specials with good service. Easy parking in the square.

I'm sorry to say but I don't want to award any stars for this pub. We waited a long time for our food and when it came it was very poor. The chips accompanying my meal were a disaster! Some were hot, others cold. How in this day and age can a chef not fry fries? The chicken in my wrap had a strange texture and the sauce was out of a bottle and was tasteless. The wrap was freezing cold. My husband's meal was okay but nothing to shout about. Having read the other reviews, I feel that I was at a different pub. Awful.

Best Breakfast in Millom bar none (we've tried everywhere) Absolutely look forward to our quarterly visits to Millom just for the Breakfast to set us up for the day on the Ale. 5*

I'm struggling with 1 star,
we ate here last night Mon 24/2/25
the food was inedible. I'm surprised any chef who has any pride in his work would allow such food out of the kitchen.
We waited 15mins from ordering to table. That should have told us all we needed to know. I ordered the ribs which were luke warm and the chips looked like they had been sat most of the day n refried to warm them through ? about the only thing that looked fresh was the salad. The other half ordered the steak & ale pie which was alright according to him but the chips were in the same sorry state. I didn't eat my meal and couldn't wait to leave ??
It goes without saying we will not be returning.

We had booked a hotel in millom and we called in the bear for some food, really dissapointed the chicken burger breast was tough the chips where soggy but hard in the middle, as this was the only pub near the hotel we decided not to stay as didn't want to go back to the pub, inside looks like a cafe , millom is also run down town.

Popped in for a coffee and ended up with coffee and wine! Good service and just what we needed at the time!
