If I could give you 10 Stars I would! What a fantastic shop. Technical knowledge of the products they sell is second to non. If you?re after advice on outdoor equipment then this is the place to go. The staff are very friendly, accommodating and professional. I recently had an issue with a zip on a jacket I had bought and they went above and beyond to rectify this. Customer service and aftercare is fantastic. If you?re in Keswick give these guys your custom.

We found this absolute gem quite recently and Rathbones is by far the BEST outdoor shop in Keswick. The staff are all friendly and knowledgeable and the customer service is outstanding. My wife and l always stay over in Ambleside but we make a point of coming up to Keswick just to go to Rathbones. Unlike most other larger shops,you get the "personal touch" and it's a pleasure to shop here. We wouldn't go anywhere else.

What a great little find this shop is. They have a small collection of everything and what they do stock is of the highest quality. I went in to buy some new boots and found the assistant extremely knowledgeable and helpful. He looked at my old boots, (staggered slightly when he realised how old they were) asked me exactly what I wanted then gave me several options. I ended up with another pair of Scarpa boots which I have now tested over Scafell Pike and they are fantastic boots. They also stock the great British Altberg boots which I was tempted by also. Thank you for a great service.

Called into the shop today and went out with 2 lightweight tops, then went back for a waterproof!!! The reason I went back was due to the excellent service. This is a very good 'personal' shop. The best in Keswick. I've been going for years, and will call in for more years I hope.Well recommended outdoor shop. Thanks all. To the guy who recommended the waterproof jacket - well done I love it !!!

Excellent. The gear is first class - high quality at fair prices and, rather than following the herd, stock has an eye to what really works. Staff are very knowledgeable, responsive and helpful, spending as much time as it takes to get it right. This is a first class independent - strongly recommended.

I feel compelled to leave a review for this company, without being prompted.Their speed and efficiency is quite simply 2nd to none. I ordered an expensive coat Saturday early afternoon & the garment was delivered on the Monday morning Royal Mail Special Delivery.Here's the really important bit. The garment just wasn't suitable for us - absolutely nothing wrong with it or the company's processes etc, it simply just wasn't for us.So we packed it up and happily paid the return postage via the same method they used to send it to us - it seemed the right thing to do.The next day, without any prompting or any hassle at all, a full refund appeared in our account.Now in my eyes, that's fabulous customer service from the initial point of ordering right through to receiving a full, no hassle refund. This doesn't happen like this very often nowadays.I would happily purchase from this company again, their customer service is exemplary.Hence why I felt compelled to write this review.

Ventured into this shop with my good lady whilst holidaying in the lakes last week and if I could leave zero stars I would...was followed around the shop upstairs & down, stared at, then coldly asked if there was anything I could be helped with, more confronting than helpful in manner.I'm a 54yr old property developer not a shoplifter...I was actually browsing for a pair of decent quality hiking boots and waterproof jacket but after this experience, I'd rather leave my crown jewels in the the safekeeping of a hatchet wielding madwoman than spend my hard earned cash in this store.Well played staff...it's not like you had any high end stock that you couldn't steal from millets or blacks anyway...do yourself a favour and avoid unless you like being made to feel like a thief whilst out spending your cash

Thank you for taking the time to find me a pair of boots to fit my very wide feet when I visited in August. The Altbergs are very comfortable and robust, easily on a par with any boots I've ever worn. The service couldn't have been better.

On our last day of our hiking holiday, my husband and I wandered into this lovely shop with no plans to buy anything. I just wanted to check out the hiking boot range as my 8 year old Scarpa boots just sprung a leak climbing Scafell Pike. James was quick to engage and I realised quickly I'll be better off buying a new pair here than online. Since I had my insoles with me, I thought it would be easy to just fit the same Scarpa Terra, but it was not to be as my old boots had completely moulded to my feet. Over the years, my feet's bridge is much lower and whilst my feet was firmly comfortable on all sides, I had all the space above the foot bridge which was bothering me. Whilst I was prepared to break in the new Scarpa, James then brought out the Altberg (Lady Fremington) which I am ashamed to say I've not heard of before. It fit me better than the Scarpa, and seeing that, he then opened the day's delivery box which had just come in and pulled out another pair of Altberg (Malham) with my size and it was PERFECT. I'm so so pleased with my purchase and so glad with the customer service provided. The patience, diligence and knowledge given is really commendable. Thank you guys.

Came in looking for a Gore-Tex coat, with no knowledge of the different types and fits of jackets. The staff member who helped us was incredibly knowledgable and really helpful in explaining the different types and benefits of each. Left with a Mountain Equipment Saltoro jacket which is 10/10.
