Had a really lovely time here. The coffee here is fantastic and the puddings are excellent too. We enjoyed having our coffee outside with the sound of the river flowing by.

Absolutely awful. A 45 minute wait for two stone cold breakfasts that both had missing or incorrect items included. All the ingredients were really cheap and nasty, the service was awful, waitresses seemed totally disinterested. Avoid it all costs. Both a small and a veggie breakfast were purchased. We left most of it.

The lady cooking looked totally exhausted and low. The 2 waitresses obviously wanted to be somewhere else and 0 attempt to interact, smile or be friendly. Potatoes tasted nice but no effort to make the food look appetising.
Toilet facilities ready for a make over too

Were in Caldbeck and called in here for a spot of lunch. The cafe has been created in an old watermill, so the interior was quirky. We chose a table inside, but there were tables outside in a small garden (dog friendly area).
The soup was homemade, served with lovely bread. The bacon roll was very tasty and the coffee was piping hot.
The waitress was very cheerful and friendly.
They also had a nice selection of their own homemade jams and relishes.

Great food sitting inside or out

We were recommended to visit this café on our way home from the Cumbrian coast. It is tucked away in Caldbeck, a chocolate box Lake District National Park village about 12 miles from both Carlisle and Penrith. It is close to the Beck and it's location is peaceful and rural. The cricket ground and parish church are adjacent. We were very kindly served by friendly staff on a hot day and we sat in the garden where dogs are allowed. The beans with cheese on toast was generous. We were not sure the Cumberland sausage was indeed Cumberland but was filling nonetheless. There are two businesses adjacent which are also worth visiting.

Good food in a nicely located hideaway, great place to stop on a day out.

The cheese scone was tasteless. The egg mayonnaise sandwich was very sloppy, it looked and tasted like the mayonnaise had been watered down. The coleslaw was just as bad - both tasted awful. One of our group is lactose intolerant and vegetarian, unfortunately the waitress was very unhelpful when she was trying to find out which items would be suitable. She gave up in the end and opted to just have a drink. For some reason the mayonnaise was mixed with milk, which explains why the egg mayonnaise was so runny.

Unfortunately we didn't have a great experience. Normally, I'd not leave a negative review and just speak to someone who worked there, which I did, but they were totally uninterested. Sadly I've got nothing positive to say about the food, drink or service.

Excellent little cafe by the river. We sat outside for our meals but it was difficult to see the river from there. It's a pity we found it on the penultimate day of our break.

Quite location for a gentle walk and refreshments. Home made cheesecake recommended.

Charming cafe, food well cooked although on the expensive side. Service could be improved. Most young staff appeared undertrained and not confident.

Great little fund serving exceptionally good home made food with friendly service overlooking the river.
