Absolutely brilliant staff. Chilli beef nachos, steak and ale pie, Black Sheep ale and lemonade all fantastic. Dining area inside spacious and cool on a hot summer's day. Gem of a pub.

In my humble opinion, I think this is the best pub in Hawkshead. The pub had four draft ales on - all well kept. The Swan Blonde from Bowness Bay Brewery was the best but the others were deserving of a sample! The Sunday Roast was perfect. The staff were great in looking after the customers.
The inn dates back to at least the 15th century, making it the oldest pub in the village. The building, which is Grade II listed on the National Heritage List for England, was refaced in the 19th century, giving it a stucco exterior with a slate roof, though it retains much of its historic character.

Lovely traditional pub with very welcoming and friendly staff. Enjoyed the most delicious Sunday lunch with fresh vegetables, homemade Yorkshire puddings and very tasty gravy. Would definitely recommend and visit again.

Came in for tea, warm and cosy atmosphere with a nice and friendly welcome, food delicious, especially the steak. Staff very helpful, friendly and polite. Would definitely recommend a visit

Lovely pub in a beautiful village serving a nice range of looked after ales. Didn't pre book food but had a table free and we both enjoyed a very tasty fresh pizza. We were able to change the pizza to toppings of our choice and spiced them up a bit aswell. Great chap behind the bar think he was the landlord very happy and helpful def be returning again thank you.

Dined here about 3 weeks ago whilst staying in Hawkshead for a few days. Food was absolutely excellent. All Italian menu where everything is made from scratch; pasta, pizza dough,breads,even the ice cream. We booked well in advance as we know how busy it can get and as expected the restaurant was full. Lots of veggie options or things that could be made veggie if you asked. All the staff were very friendly and helpful as usual. Just simply couldn't fault it, one of the best meals we've had in a long while. We'll be visiting again over New Year and will definitely be eating here then
