We booked the Mews ?Suite? for a relaxing Lake District break and we were very disappointed. The room was dirty, dated, old, and poorly maintained. Walking through the weed & moss covered courtyard, you?re presented with a rickety, old cladded building. Walking in, you?re struck by a strong foisty smell accompanied by flooring held together with gaffer tape, blinds peppered with bite marks, cobwebs, damaged furnishings, and mouldy / unpainted walls. Don?t forget to enjoy waking up with a fresh aching pain in your back thanks to the creaking solid mass of a ?bed? available on the mezzanine floor. We?ll let the photos speak for themselves. Outside of the room?s delights, Tweedies redeems itself as much as it can with excellent staff and delicious food. The rooms inside the main building are apparently much nicer, and the website photos would suggest so too? We won?t be back to stay. Do not waste your money by picking a ?Mews? room - unless your expectations are very low.

Not sure why the negative reviews, perfectly good hotel. We stopped for a 2 night stay, it was a very comfortable stay with a good breakfast each morning. We also ate in the bar which was very nice and good quality. The staff were friendly and attentive. Grasmere is a delightful place to stay very pretty village. Please don't be put off by negative reviews.

Used the bar for a few evening meals. Limited menu but all tasted good. A little expensive. Excellent drinks, staff are very friendly, great atmos. Dog friendly. Could have done with a few board games for the kids.

This is a charming and beautiful, homely style place with friendly and professional staff. Breakfast was great and the pub dinners also delicious, with a great atmosphere. All in the breathtaking setting of the Lake District. Highly recommended.

Hotel is set in the centre of Grasmere, good parking which is free when staying at the hotel. Hotel decor needs some attention in some areas rotten wooden window frames in the bathroom & bedroom however its a large old building which takes a great deal of upkeep. Breakfast is great and plentiful with good choices for everyone. The room was of a good standard, the bed was vey comfortable with plenty of storage and good quality bedding & furniture. The toiletries are fabulous, its a shame they don't sell them. Reception was only staffed at certain times of the day but you could call staff via a mobile number if needed. We chose not to eat in the bar in an evening as the menu was limited and there was nothing that stood out, however we did drink in the bar and the staff were great. We will go back as we love the lake district and you are made to feel very welcome.

We paid £364 to stay in Mews 1 for two nights. The extra living space for our baby things was so helpful and the set up downstairs was great. The bedroom was on a mezzanine level which was very warm and the only window is a skylight which we couldn?t open due to the rain! Part of the reason we booked this was due to the hot tub in the courtyard but this was emptied and cleaned with no warning on the only full day of our stay which meant we couldn?t use it. One patronising member of staff said it was because it was a legal requirement to clean the hot tub regularly and another said it was because a guest had gotten in with body lotion on. The story seemed to change when I asked why we weren?t given notice the hot tub would be out of use for 24 hours. There was no sincerity in the apology and I was just told it was in the terms and conditions? Our toilet seat was also completely broken (this was replaced the same day we reported it) but I question who cleaner the room and thought it was fine to leave like that - picture included. The towel rail was also filthy and i had to clean it before putting our things on. For the price we paid per night I would not stay here again. There was no one on reception the entire time we were there and the place seemed to stretch the staff numbers. You just didn?t get the level of service you would expect for the price paid.

Really nice stay. Arrived later in the afternoon, just called the number at reception from their phone and someone came to check us in. We stayed in a Mews room, with a lounge area and bathroom downstairs and the bedroom upstairs. Really spacious and clean. Lots of amenities and toiletries if needed. The bath was huge (great for after our 12 mile walk). There was a TV in the living area and upstairs in the bedroom area. Breakfast was incredible. There was no time slot for breakfast you just turned up when you wanted and there would always be a table ready! We also ate there the night we arrived and couldn?t fault it at all. The best sharing board we?ve ever had to start! Staying in the Mews we also had our own designated parking space close to it. There is a shared hot tub for the 4 mews rooms but we didn?t use this. Definitely would recommend staying here and we?d stay again ourselves.

Had some really good pub grub. Great choice of beers and friendly cheerful service from bar staff and waiting on staff.

Beautiful hotel in a central location within Grasmere. Breakfast was very tasty and served quickly. We had a room with a view of the long drive leading up to the hotel. The grounds were lovely. Staff were very friendly; however the reception was often unmanned with a phone left on the desk to call for staff assistance. Loved the toiletries in the bathroom!

Lovely lodge with friendly staff. Clean room and a comfortable bed. Only downside it the sliding doors for the on suite didn't shut properly so no privacy in the bathroom.... Great breakfast ideal location.

Condescending rude bar service. Bar staff should learn to speak clearly, not be blunt and not be condescending. It?s a shame because it?s a great place and location. But with that service I won?t be back.Same bar staff as another review 1 month ago: Beware the young, floppy haired bartender with a chip on his shoulder. This boy needs some training or shown the door. He won?t go far with his attitude.Food & drinks: Reasonable prices
