Only let down was the food/menu.For a Hotel of this calibre the menu was very limited with little variety. The Big Breakfast was missing mushrooms, tomatoes, beans, hash browns. Not so big after all.Food & drinks: As above and rather pricey.

Stayed at the Grand 2 nights during the week, our stay was pleasant. The bed was very comfy, the food was very well prepared and was tasty, the service was excellent.

Mediocre pub food in an expensive restaurant. The hotel and restaurant are very nicely appointed but the food between Christmas and new year was very disappointing. Staff were ok but not wonderful and 10% service charge added! Nonresidents are placed in an area outside the restaurant where it can be difficult to get service. The location is wonderful in daylight but a difficult walk in the hours of darkness even though it is close to Grasmere, because there is a stretch with no street lighting. The experience might be better for residents but very disappointing for me as a nonresident.Food & drinks: Disappointed as above

My sister and I came for dinner last night?the service was appalling. The waitresses( apart from the small dark haired one) were surly and silent, only coming to us if we signaled. Not one word was spoken ?,.and when we asked to split the bill, the blonde waitress sighed impatiently and snatched the bill back, clearly finding this request just too much. The food was lovely but spoilt by the rude staff.Food & drinks: I think I?ve said it all.

We absolutely love this place as we do The Grand at Lytham. Pure luxury and our room with our private terrace was beautiful. Lovely relaxing weekend for us both and we will definitely

Lovely hotel, great service and very comfortable. The property is very well upholstered, is in tip top condition, which is probably helped by the no dogs policy. The restaurant meals we had were of a high standard, including breakfast, cooked food always piping hot.Situated in lovely landscaped gardens overlooking Lake Grasmere, gave us the relaxing stay we were looking for.

3 night stay. Lovely lady at desk when we first arrived and showed us to our room. After this we never saw anyone at reception again. Room appeared nice but drains in shower room were blocked so ended up like a swimming pool, water practically running out into bedroom. Service at breakfast awful. 40 minute wait for food. Staff unfriendly and and surly when manager not around. Shown to dining table first morning in front of manager then next day when she wasn't there told to'go and find table yourselves'. Handed room key back this morning after searching for staff member and received a grunt from him in reply. Room had beautiful view and bed very comfy but definitely not worth the money. Horrible atmosphere in dining room/bar so avoided them and ate dinner elsewhere. Much nicer, more reasonably priced hotels in grasmere. Would not stay at 'grand' again.

I have mixed feelings about our 2 night stay here. Detailed review below :)Pros-great facility. Hotel is very new and has AC and very comfy seating in their common area. The bathroom and beds were all very comfortable-quality breakfast, lots of variety included within the breakfast packet-perfect location. It?s a 3 minute walk from the town center, but far enough away for beautiful views and calm morningsCons-understaffed or poor service. I couldn?t tell if the service wasn?t good or if they just didn?t have enough help. No one was ever at the front desk or offered us basic tourist information. We checked in late at 10pm and we were locked out with no staff visible even though it said in their email we could check in as late at 12am. We had to call their emergency cell to get someone to the front. Also our first breakfast here we sat and then we?re questioned multiple times if we were staying there and what rooms. I think the restaurant used to be open to the public, which it isn?t anymore, but I didn?t see them questioning any of the other guests as much as us. We were the only non-white guests that I saw there so maybe that had something to do with it, but the next morning they recognized us and we had no trouble with the service after that.-no lift. I?m not sure if you can call yourself ?luxury? if you put your guests on the third floor and make them lug all their luggage up 2 flights of very narrow twisted stairs. For my elderly aunt they did help her, but did not offer for the rest of us.Overall, it was an ok experience. I loved the rooms and the location, but I think I could find better service and experience elsewhere. There are so many cute inns here, just choose another.

We have just returned from a 3 night break at this beautiful, recently refurbished family run hotel and everything about our stay here was perfect. We stayed in a lake view room, which was spotlessly clean, with stunning views, a huge comfy bed, great shower, Molton Brown complimentary toilets and tea and coffee machine. We had just booked bed and breakfast, but after speaking to other guests who were raving about the food in the hotel we decided to eat there every evening, we weren't disappointed, the food in this hotel is superb! Breakfasts were amazing, and the evening meals just fantastic! Totally spoilt for choice with the menu. All the staff at the hotel were really friendly and very attentive, couldn't fault them whatsoever. We've been to Grasmere many times and have stayed at most of the hotels in the village, but the Grand is now our favourite by far! We will most definitely be returning to this wonderful hotel.

Where to start. Booked this as surprise for partners 60th. Have stayed in numerous hotels in grasmere as we visit 3 times a year but wanted something more special this time. On arrival we were met by Louise who was lovely. This in fact was thr only time we saw anyone at reception. Even when we left today reception was empty. Had booked lake view room and admittedly view was amazing. On first glance room and en suite looked nice but noticed paintwork a bit shabby and needing redone. Nespresso machine in room only giving lukewarm water so we asked for a kettle which was provided (would rather have kettle in first place). Bed extremely comfortable. Shower - walk in style. Plugs must have been blocked because following shower whole bathroom ankle deep in water. Had to use bath mat to prevent water leaking out into bedroom. 2nd night air con unit dripping water out and wetting carpet. Staff fixed this. Breakfast- 1st morning Louise showed us to our table. Service a bit haphazard. Had to order every item we wanted in one go. 2nd morning Louise off. Waited to be shown to our table and were told by surly staff member to go and find a table. Order taken then 40 minute wait for food. Even then they got order wrong. Staff very curt and unfriendly. Whole service appeared haphazard. We had been going to book dinner but due to unfriendly, soulless atmosphere in the dining room and the poor service we ate elsewhere. This morning on leaving no one at reception again. Went in search of staff to hand key back and not word said to us. No 'did you enjoy your stay' or even 'goodbye'. Although we always enjoy grasmere, special occasion was ruined for us. We spent as little time in the communal areas of hotel as possible as very bad atmosphere. Have stayed in less expensive hotels in grasmere which have been far better (tweedies and victorian house). Extremely disappointing. Definitely won't be back.

Throughly enjoyed our stay at The Grand, fantastic views of the fells and the food was outstanding, freshly prepared and varied in choice. The staff were extremely efficient and helpful. I would definitely recommend this hotel and hope to return soon.

One of the best parts of our trip to the UK this summer. The vacation didn?t go as planned. I was so looking forward to Lake District?s part of our trip but had a bad fracture before coming over in an accident in the UK. That kind of ruined the experience of Grasmere and Windermere for me.But the hotel more than made up for it!To quote my older daughter, ?There aren?t too many people here as staff but they always make you feel important.?Firstly, the manager is great. We had a bit of an issue on our first day which she sorted out promptly. Friendly, caring, helpful and gave us lots of good advice. Including giving me a walking stick to help me while I got my crutches delivered from Amazon. She recommended many things for our kids to do too.Secondly, the staff are great. From Claudio at reception and check in to Anthony (?) to Dibvega (?) in the restaurant. They were all so helpful, considerate, kind and went out of their way to help us throughout. They made it special too. The men also helped carry our luggagesThirdly, the room was great. We got the Fell View Suite as it accommodated our family. And was spacious enough.Fourthly, the view was great! Stunning property and so calming and relaxing.Next, the restaurant - the food is really nice, flavorful and cooked just right - definitely try the sea food. And if you want to order from Windermere, plenty of restaurants deliver too. Then, the location. Grasmere is lovely and it?s all walkable from this hotel. The lake is close too and a short hike away. Parking on site (albeit not secure but Grasmere is safe!) made things super easy.If you?re coming to Windermere or even Grasmere, don?t hesitate to stay here. It?s a beautiful place :) I know if we ever come back to Gramsere in the near future, we will revisit this hotel.P.S. The only catch is they?ve got no elevator - it?s just one floor so if you can?t climb or have mobility issues, just note that. But they say it clearly on their website, so it?s no secret.
