We had a wonderful lunch at Rogan&Co the other day, choosing the Set Lunch Menu. The food was excellent.
The mushroom on rye cracker snack to start with was delicious. Problem with an amuse bouche is that it?s designed to be a single mouth full. We were very sad when it was gone and would have happily paid extra to get another one each. So yum!! The bread and butter is light fluffy carb heaven. The kale started wasn?t either of our favourites, but was still interesting and nicely cooked. We shared both mains, and ate probably the technically best cooked chicken either of us has ever eaten and a carrot purée we?ll both think about for a long time, but for me the vegetarian main (Ibis celeriac) won out. So very tasty! The desert was very nice, and managed to feel indulgent, yet light, which is what you need at the end of a hearty lunch.
I?ve seen many reviews complaining about small portions, but I couldn?t disagree more. Neither of us had eaten any breakfast as we didn?t want to be too full to enjoy this lunch, and we left the restaurant very well fed, without feeling uncomfortably stuffed, which allowed us to actually enjoy our experience, and feel good about the money we had just spent on this delicious food, rather than regretting all of our life choices, because we?d eaten way too much.
We tried all 3 mocktails available, and while we definitely had a favourite (the rosemary one, hands down!) they were all really fun and interesting, and I very much appreciated that they cost £8/£9/£10, as often you go somewhere where your cocktails cost £18-£20 and your mocktails £15, which always seems insulting. They also offered alcohol free G&Ts for £6.50, another thing I very much appreciated.
We were a little bemused by the ever changing servers (being greeted, brought to our tables, offered water, brought and explained the menus, and having our order taken was done by 5 different members of staff) and glad when after the initial flurry we seemed to settle into mostly having one main server, and he was absolutely lovely! They all were, but it?s a LOT of social interaction trying to keep track off and make small talk with all 8 staff members on the restaurant floor at any given time, because any of them could approach you at any moment!, rather than just having to pay attention to 1 person. All around I would say the service was great, but for me personally a little too much. I am perfectly happy filling up my own water glass and for my napkin to remain unfolded when I go to the toilet. However I do appreciate that this is part of the style, so I can overlook it.
All around, we had a lovely afternoon. While £50 a person for food isn?t something we can spend on lunch every week, we felt the price was pitched perfectly and that we received exactly the level of food that we were expecting for that money, and will very happily come back in the future!!

The staff did their job well, the atmosphere was good. Everything was great until the main courses. The main courses were so salty that it was impossible to eat. I even felt worse.

Amazing food experience. My wife and I were here to celebrate her birthday. The restaurant is located in a cute little village and the ambience was just perfect. It felt like one of those novels.
The wine pairing was really good. We would recommend that. We felt well taken care of by the wait staff.
We would recommend being upfront and clear about your food restrictions, as they cannot accommodate changes on the day of.

To everyone at rogan and co I had a wonderful evening and really enjoyed speaking to Dave about his extensive wine knowledge, from the moment I got to cartmel I tried to hold in my excitement but couldn?t help trying to get in earlier than was needed. The greeting I received from Mike was exceptional and his warm smile and calming stance took me right through to my table. I glanced at the front desk to see my environment and knew I was in for a treat. The first snack was stunning but didn?t require the tea in my opinion however made me reflect on how perfect the first tart was. I?d like to add that it was me who took the scented candle as I knew I was going to be paying an extortionate amount for the meal. Luckily I am on benefits and had saved a pretty penny and doesn?t excuse me taking anything away with me. Sorry Simon and team. But it does smell great in my car unlit and will always remind me of what a beautiful experience I had in your amazing restaurant. To all the team from a chef I truly admire how knowledgeable everyone was, and on my way out I guessed who made the seaweed custard and he said that the ratio isn?t as good as his homeland. In kitchens we all learn from each other and I could taste an Asian influence throughout the menu from Cumbria. Moving with the times is essential to a successful restaurant but being sold something that is steeped in English history right down to the naval next to me really made me think what is British cuisine today? And that question has made me applaud the work you all do to be the best in our country.
Love from a chef who cares just as much.

That?s a wowzers! The restaurant was located in a quaint village and we really loved the calm atmosphere. They?ve arranged the chairs to the Michelin standard so you can sit close to your partner while enjoying food. It also adds nice aesthetics to it. The waiter jokingly said the highlight is the bread, but we found that to be true (no offence to the rest of the meal, it was delightfully scrumptious), but the bread just blew us out of the water, along with the marmite infused butter, chefs kiss ????. They even let us take our unfinished bread away with us because we loved it so much. The other highlight for us was a sort of gravy drink (Cipollini onion dashi & savory). We thoroughly enjoyed our meal even though we didn?t know what some of the things were. I suddenly remembered: if you happen to see the Pumpkin seed ice cream, oat, dandelion root & peach leaf dessert, you MUST try it you won?t regret it. The staff were so kind, they even brought me a Michelin star birthday cake, as that was the occasion, the first in my many years of living. We couldn?t be happier with our experience and we hope to come back at some point.

Rogan & Co was impeccable from start to finish. The staff were all exceptionally friendly, knowledgeable and couldn't be more helpful.
The food was utterly delicious with a trio of appetisers surpassing all expectations alongside delicious Parker House style bread with yeast butter.
Each of the courses was absolutely delicious - I opted for the caramelised potato, beef and rice pudding.
I couldn't recommend more and can't wait to come back.

I had a wonderful meal at Rogan & Co in Cartmel ? excellent value for such a high standard of food. The scallop, beef, and rice pudding dishes were absolutely outstanding, with every bite full of flavour and finesse. The service was very good throughout, with two staff members serving most of our courses who were especially helpful, friendly, and enthusiastic.
A great place to take my guests ? relaxed atmosphere, exceptional food, and consistently impressive hospitality.

Unbelievable restaurant, out of the Star rated restaurants we?ve experienced this was by far in the top spot, priced perfectly and affordable for foodies of all ranges, service was impeccable, friendly and engaging. The food, hard to put into words but simply outstanding and delicious, everything from the small plates to the insanely flavoursome bread and the rest of the dishes, also the drinks were fantastic.
