“The hotel is quite old so some of the features are a bit quirky but it retains some lovely period architecture and pieces which are well maintained and the place is very clean. There are two very comfortable relaxation lounges. The owners and staff are very efficient and friendly, breakfast is generous and well cooked. Only slight downside is the bathroom and shower cubicle are on the small side but as place to stay a pleasant flat walk out of Cartmel then it's recommended.”

“Stayed for 3 nights DB&B. Comfortable room with balcony overlooking Morecambe Bay. I'm not particularly a "foodie" but I have to say the food and service were excellent. A very refined hotel with lovely gardens and lots of parking. Definitely appeals to more "mature" guests. Ideal for a quiet, short break in the southern part of The Lakes.”

“Had a wonderful stay for two nights while going to the races at Cartmel. Friendly helpful staff, food lovely and plenty of choice. Not to far to walk to racecourse but very steep. Will definitely return.”

“My wife and I had a two night weekend break at the Netherwood and this is what we found :- Pros The hotel is externally and in many areas internally stunning. The views from the front and the superior rooms of Morecambe Bay at fantastic. Some members of staff are very friendly and keen to please. Breakfasts are buffet style and plentiful. Quality is fine. The gentleman behind the bar of far eastern heritage is excellent !!! Cons The superior rooms are faiyly bog standard apart from the views. Phones and emails go unanswered. Not good for business I would have thought. Several young members of staff are unfriendly and going through the motions. An older waiter was very grumpy. Similar to Argus Filtch in Harry Potter films. Limited choice in the restaurant & meagre portions do not encourage return visits. Shower heads are 2" across and have poor pressure. No sign of any managers...possibly the issue here ? Conclusion Most but not all of the staff would benefit from formal customer service training. The superior rooms should look and feel superior. This ia a fantastic hotel if you san see beyond the service.”
