Welcoming quaint pub. The character of this old building has been retained. It is so comfortable with friendly staff. Excellent breakfast. Eclectic furniture in our room, which was so comfortable and clean.

First diners of the day but service was erratic. Two had fish & chips - small but excellent. 2 had roast beef - nearly cold and tough as were the vegetables. The log fire was newly lit but left to go out. There was no service - I had to ask for everything.

So we visited the Derby Arms on recommendation from the campsite up the road. It?s a 35 min walk and we were soaked through when we arrived as we got caught in a heavy rain shower! We got there around 7:15. Website said food served till 8pm. There?s no online facility to book and tbh we were told we wouldn?t need to by the campsite avd the restaurant website doesn?t mention booking. Anyway when we arrived we went to the restaurant bit to be told somewhat abruptly that we couldn?t have food as they had 2 big parties in! Bearing in mind there was nowhere else for miles and we were drenched and had got there in ample time we were really frustrated. Thankfully after some discussion, the manager and chef agreed we could order but couldn?t guarantee how long we would wait. We were so grateful for the change of heart and agreed we would just have the soup and bread and dips so they weren?t really massively inconvenienced. And actually the portions were huge. And the soup delicious. The place was very busy and it seemed understaffed and staff seemed quite stressed which probably accounted for the initial lack of warm welcome. So would we return? Definitely! But we would book ahead! And hopefully next time enjoy a main course too!

This was our 3rd visit here and each time we enjoy the experience more. The staff all are keen to chat and anything that you ask for is willingly done. The room was great for a pub B & B, new towels laid out for us. The breakfasts are cooked from good local sourced ingredients. Our evening meal starter of panko halloumi with sweet chilli dip was so tasty. The home made game pie delicious. Fish and Chips a good option too. The bar has a great atmosphere and quite busy with locals too.

Lovely old pub! Take care where you sit in winter! You'll be boiled alive sat by the glorious real fires or sat in a draught by the old windows! Food lovely, staff very friendly with regulars but visitors are barely acknowledged! We will however be back, and prepared! Ideal lunchtime meeting place x Super dog friendly!!Food & drinks: Fantastic choice of drinks.. menu changes almost daily with a limited but quality selection. We had burgers and hot sandwiches with proper home made chips!!Noteworthy details: Shame they don't respond to emails!

Called in one Sunday lunchtime on the off chance of getting a table, the bar area was quite busy (dog friendly) however we liked the option that we could sit in the restaurant area (although we don?t mind dogs we liked the voice of not having to share our eating space with them). Open fires were lit, which was lovely. The lady who served us was really friendly and chatty, menu was great, good value in the roast & pudding deal. Food was excellent, really tasty and fresh. The man behind the bar recommended a bitter for my husband and it was a great recommendation, lots of different choice on the drinks. Such a relaxing atmosphere could have stayed all afternoon in front of the fire!

We had a lovely meal of beautifully cooked Fish, Chips and Peas. The batter was crispy and chips exactly as we like them. It was on an offer of 50% off main course, so even better value. It?s a shame more people don?t take up this Wednesday offer. There were 2 open fires blazing away. A lovely mid week treat.

Great Sunday lunch, service was good food as expected beer choice was good. Price wise was as expected nowadays so no complaints. As we were early in service and it was quiet due to the roadworks would have been nice to sit nearer main room fires (we did book) in the empty unbooked tables but maybe we were put there due to kids. Not really a big deal. We were well looked after.

Very poor service. Booked 2 double rooms, left our luggage in the room and our cars in the car park as we were going to a wedding nearby, arrived back at midnight and couldn't get into the hotel. No-one on site, no emergency telephone number and absolutely no way to get into the hotel turns out the door lock had apparently been been broken by a guest slamming the door to hard. Had to pay £70 in a taxi to get home and return the next day for our car and belongings. We were not offered any compensation for our taxi or the inconvenience and petrol expenses for having to return the next day. Its a good job we lived within a taxi journey and could go home in an emergency and were not strangers to the area or we would have been abandoned in the middle of nowhere with absolutely nowhere to stay at 12.30 am in the morning except in our cars minus all of our luggage which was stuck in the hotel room. Poor running of a business.

A pub with rooms/hotel just off the main road. Very welcoming offering good food, ales etc. The room was dog friendly and spacious. The bathroom was one of the largest en suites I've experienced. I have no hesitation recommending this
